Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is located on the Antares Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Irale is a tropical world with an atmosphere heavy in sulfur contaminants. It has two moons.
The local day on Irale is 25 hours and 39 minutes. This day is divided into a nine-hour work period, an eight-hour period of rest, and another nine-hour period of sleep. Given the close correspondence between Irale’s local day and the standard Imperial twenty-four hour day, most Azhanti have little trouble adapting to the latter.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Irale is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Irale has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Irale has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The Iralian ecosystem is rich and diverse, and the native biochemistry is compatible with Humans, although non-Azhanti must find a way to neutralize the sulfur compound.
Native animals:
- Nevyur (predator)
- Vraumich (predator)
Native Sophont: Azhanti[edit]
The mainworld is notable as the homeworld of the Azhanti, a Minor Human Race evolved to survive in high temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Irale is an important, high-population and heavily-industrialized world located in Gimgir Subsector of Antares Sector.
- The system is a member of the Imperium and contains a Scout Base. The 156.S1 ScoutRon of the 156th Fleet is stationed here.
For years, Irale has lobbied Archduke Brzk to place a Domain of Antares military academy on the planet. Brzk has considerable respect for the people of Irale, but the polities surrounding such a decision are complicated. Many within the archducal court oppose granting such consideration to Irale, believing its "backward" ways and draconian local laws do not present the proper image of Antares.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]
Irale, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial subsector duke, who also conducts affairs regarding the entire subsector at the Interstellar and Imperial level.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Irale has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Irale has a population of 3,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- Most of the population consists of Azhanti.
- The Azhanti cherish children, and still tend to have as many as they feel they can support. As warfare has become less common and advanced technology brings greater prosperity, Irale may face serious population problems.
World Languages[edit]
- Transform (Galanglic): A dialect of one of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
- Rakhli: The amalgamated common language of the Azhanti.
- Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
Urbanization[edit]
Irale has many settlements with populations in the millions. Large settlements have been the norm since ancient times, when Azhanti clans and tribes would lay claim to a swath of land and build it up as a defense against their enemies. In time, these fortified towns grew into larger communities, a testament to the high Azhanti birthrate.
The largest city and planetary capital of Irale is Menzit, with a population of 7 million, located in the nation of Tlakan.
- Other major cities include Khalumpoch.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Irale possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Irale is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
- Note that although Irale is currently united under a single global bureaucracy, it still possesses several nations with their own cultures and autonomous governments.
World Law (L)[edit]
Irale has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Culture[edit]
Every ten years, Irale hosts a festival in the city of Khalumpoch. The highlight of the festival is a series of games designed to test the devotion of native Ro'akh practitioners. Like the Olympic Games of ancient Greece, the Khalumpoch Games are as much a religious devotion as an expression of competitive spirit. Travellers come from dozens of parsecs away to watch this remarkable event.
World Economy[edit]
A practical people, the Azhanti recognize that Imperial science has been achieving great wonders long before they became part of the interstellar community. As such, they have made little effort to do more than acquire and use technologies already developed elsewhere in the Imperium.
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- -5908: The first Vilani expedition to Irale meets with disaster when several members of the expedition are killed by marauding Azhanti.
- Later contact attempts meet with the same result. Eventually, Sharurshid officials decide that Irale has nothing significant to offer.
- -500: The most advanced nation on Irale has attained TL-6.
- 676: After about a generation of covert contact, the IISS finally lifts the interdiction of Irale and begins the construction of a local scout base.
- Within a few years, Azhanti are leaving their homeworld by the thousands to take employment elsewhere.
- 800: There is now a substantial Azhanti population in the nearby Antares system, and other settlements are appearing all across the sector.
- 837: The IISS formally repeals the Irale Amber Zone.
