The Bye-Ren of Bye-Ren-Ay are a technologically sophisticated Human Ethnic Group.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Bye-Ren are an ethnic group most noted for their origin in the hellish crush of a continuous 2-G gravity well, producing immense strength and resilience -- and a host of inherent health issues.
Physiology and Ecology[edit]
Generations of adaptation and extensive super-calcification treatments have produced extreme bone density. However, their Human heritage combined with their crushed and wrinkled appearance tends to disturb more traditional members of Humaniti. Bye-Ren adapt easily to lower gravities, but their short legs often cause trouble in keeping up with their taller kin. Their super-rugged metabolism tends to "wear out" sooner than that of other Humans, even in normal gravity, and the high blood pressure needed in their home environment causes significant bleeding problems.
Archaeological and Cultural Sophontology[edit]
The Bye-Ren descend from survivors of a mining expedition abandoned at the end of the First Imperium. This betrayal (intentional or otherwise) has coloured their value system significantly. Bye-Ren are extreme in their regard for personal loyalty. They are known for their refusal to abandon either responsibilities or comrades, and have a tendency to hold both friendship and enmity for life.
Aesthetics[edit]
They tend to disdain luxury and have the interesting social tradition that altitude indicates importance. A superior's office will always be situated higher than that of their (literal) underlings.
Societal Sophontology[edit]
Since the Bye-Ren are still seldom visited, their technology lags far behind the greater Imperium's.

Note: Bye-Ren-Ay is a derivation of the Solomani name given to the inhabitants. Technically, the world is the third circling Deltii. The natives have a variety of names for their world, few of them flattering or endearing, the most common being Gu-tes-tray, which translated means "home above death."
