History & Background (Dossier)

It has been suggested that this was an attempt by the Ancients to derive a race of Humans for use as workers (perhaps similar to the Sydites), but the origin of this population remains unclear. If of Terran stock, some significant metabolic processes were altered to prevent cross-breeding with other Humans. Other adjustments were apparently to the level of initiative shown by the Zaris, leading to their slow technological development. Cultural stability remains very high (higher even than Vilani standards), society changing only slightly over millennia.

Only three worlds support Zaris populations, and two were established by slower than light colonization drives millennia ago.
