Wovoka Subsector, subsector C of Aldebaran Sector, is controlled by the Solomani Confederation.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding the subsector:
Astrographic Features[edit]
The subsector is a generally unremarkable area lying within the Solomani Confederation.
- It is a relatively low stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the white subgiant primary of the Wasat system.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Wovoka Subsector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Rift Regions[edit]
The subsector contains a single rift region:
- The rimward half of the Gemini Void.
Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic and commercial concept based on Jump Drive performance.
- Most commercial vessels typically use Jump Drives capable of Jump-3 or less.
- Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
- Rifts represent a considerable obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.
Economic Astrography[edit]
Corporations[edit]
Corporations and organizations active within the subsector include:
- ConTech, a corporation specializing in life sciences, particularly large-scale bio-terraforming projects, medicine, and cloning.
- Lamarck Minerals, a corporation with a relatively small core area of operations in the Solomani Rim, but with growing interests in resource extraction and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Orion Metallurgy Corporation (OMC), engaged in resource exploration, extraction, and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Panstellar, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Probable Technologies, a scientific research organization involved with academia and heavy industry. It works extensively with the Confederation military.
- Rising Phoenix News Service (RPNS), the premier news and media organization within the Solomani Sphere. It has a strong pro-Confederation bias.
- Solomani Shipping, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Tawtercorp, a regional logistics and training corporation.
- Transstar, a Solomani megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics. It operates across 13 sectors, represented by the 13 stars in its logo.
- ZeeCorp, a corporation with interests in manufacturing active throughout the Solomani Confederation. It is a major producer of robots.
Trade Routes[edit]
Multiple trade routes lie within the region. High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along them, carrying huge amounts of goods and commodities between their member worlds.
Less profitable higher jump rating merchant vessels conduct trade and commerce among the region's outlying worlds.
There are no major political or economic groupings in the subsector, although the six-system cluster around Wovoka itself has a strong internal economy. A major trade route between the Grand United States of Quesada and the Boötean Federation, two multiworld Confederation member states, runs through the spinward side of the subsector and contributes to the wealth of Wovoka. The rest of the subsector is less prosperous.
The subsector capital is at Wovoka but its focus is on the immediate cluster rather than the subsector as a whole. The cluster around Salamis (Aldebaran 1709) receives investment funds from both Wovoka and Home, and is likely to increase in importance in future decades.
Orizaba Cluster[edit]
The Orizaba Cluster has six member systems. It lies at the junction of Wovoka, Firdausi, Quesada, and Kursa Subsectors.
- It is named for Orizaba, a technologically advanced vacuum world lying at its coreward end.
- It is sometimes referred to as the Four Corners.
Palermo Cluster[edit]
The Palermo Cluster has seven member systems.
- It is named for Palermo, a rich, technologically advanced world lying on its coreward edge.
Quesada Cluster[edit]
The Quesada Cluster has eight member systems.
- It is named for Quesada, a high population industrial world that serves as the capital of the Grand United States and the subsector.
Wovoka Arch[edit]
The Wovoka Arch has six member systems.
- It is named for Wovoka, a rich agricultural garden world that serves as the capital of Wovoka Subsector, and references the shape of the cluster on astrographic charts.
World Listing[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Wovoka Subsector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
