Arcalod is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.

  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Wovoka Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Orient Worlds.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Arcalod is tidally locked to its primary star.[2]

  • The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
  • The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Arcalod is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Arcalod has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Arcalod has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

It is an old world circling an old star. Hills and valleys criss-cross the surface, the remnants of ancient mountain ranges.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Arcalod is a member of the Orient Worlds, a small group of systems in the spinward-rimward corner of Wovoka Subsector, in Aldebaran Sector.

The system was empty until 30 years ago, when scouts from Europa identified it as a source of much needed metal for their world's burgeoning industries. Europa enabled initial settlement and planetary scans, and the Solomani provided the start-up highport and downport. Nearby Orient is keenly aware of the settlement, and while it is somewhat stung by this operation in their backyard, the government is practical enough to simply take advantage of Europan efforts.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while many see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Arcalod has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Arcalod Down and Arcalod Up are relatively recent standard Solomani designs, dating to around 30 years ago. They are primarily used to stage trade cargoes, and manage personnel access to the surface.

World Population (P)[edit]

Arcalod has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Urbanization[edit]

The Arcalod Central urban zone is located around 20 km away from Arcalod Down on the twilight zone, and is the effective startown. It is a standard Solomani vacuum-city construct commonly used in mining developments.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Arcalod possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

The Technology level is carefully controlled to not rise above TL–11, as Orient "observers" are known to be quick to adopt more advanced technologies.

World Government (G)[edit]

Arcalod is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law (L)[edit]

Arcalod has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]

This world is low in radioactives, except for a few small surface caches. Below the surface are rich veins of metals and stable heavy elements. Principal exports include metal ingots and shielding materials.
