Orient is a moderate population fluid world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]

The main points of interest in the Orient system are the warm-Jupiter-class gas giant with its collection of moons, the 2 small, rocky, independent planetoids, and the main world Orient, at the system's edge.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Orient is the largest rocky planet in its system, but it lies well away from its G-class primary at around 25 AU. It has a heavy nitrogen-methane atmosphere, and liquid ethane-methane seas, which cover 60% of the surface.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Orient is an older, cold world with little tectonic activity. There is exposed rock mountains, and also hills of solid water-ice that never melt.

World Starport[edit]

Orient has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Orient has a single highport, Orient High, and all inbound traffic is required to dock and pass customs inspection, which can be very thorough. Beyond that, the high port provides a standard Solomani experience, and local legal requirements are only applied to permanent residents. Orient High is currently (possibly, continually) undergoing an extensive refit, with the intention to multiply its capacity, increase its automation, and its overall capacity to the class-A level.

Refined fuel is available at the high port at roughly half standard prices. Access to the inner planets is restricted to approved scientific missions.

Several trade downports are available, but all travel judged to be non-trade is restricted to the Downport Welcome, with the planetary Capitol acting as its startown.

World Technology Level[edit]

Orient possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Orient is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will have better rules of succession and may last longer or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.

Specifically, the ruling class is that of the Sages of Confucius, who apply an ancient Terran philosophy in incredible detail to every aspect of everyday life, with absolute power.

World Law Level[edit]

Orient has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). All aspects of life rigidly controlled with disproportionate punishments for even minor legal infractions. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized and routine.

The Swords of Confucius ("Swords") have full access to every advanced technology for combat, observation, tracking, analysis, and prediction available for the explicit purpose of providing constant, perfect oversight according to the ancient laws and logics. Privacy does not exist in the face of this omnipresent judgement. The laws do seem to earnestly try to provide fair judgement, but there is continuous stress on all aspects of society. The Swords themselves are watched and judged by their own Judges of the Edge. The Judges are rumored to be watched in turn by their own supervisory group.

In each case, there is one pattern: the final judgement must be given by a human, in person.

World Military[edit]

The Swords are broken into mission-specific subgroups. There is a "wet" Navy equivalent. The Atmospheric Defense Sword is interesting in that their jets carry oxygen, and breathe atmospheric methane-ethane. System-wise, Orient boasts 3 heavy cruiser missile boats, and approximately 10 SDCs.

World Economy[edit]

Life on Orient is energy-intensive, but with an extensive grid of fusion reactors, it can be comfortable.

The natural organic resources make the creation of many products inexpensive.

Trade Data[edit]

Export of hydrocarbon fuels, advanced plastics, and finished organic products at reasonable prices bring in considerable cash and trade goods. Advanced, high-quality plastic habitation domes are produced here in quantity, and can be fabricated on a bespoke basis as well. These Orient domes are found across the sector in a variety of environments.

There is considerable traffic through this system, as it lies at a Jump-4 nexus for refueling.

World Demographics[edit]

Humaniti 100%

World Culture[edit]

Orient culture is Solomani, with considerable original influence from the ancient cultures of the Terran Eurasian continent.

Urbanization[edit]

Cities are domed, with key coded access controls at all doorways. It is said that it is the original inspiration for the domes of Hyperborea (Aldebaran 0305) and Trieumf (Aldebaran 1726).
