Notes[edit]
The two stars of the Wovoka system have an average separation of 30 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.
- They have an orbital period around one another of approximately 130 standard years.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Wovoka orbits towards the outer edge of the primary star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Wovoka is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Wovoka has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
- Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere push up the world's surface temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Wovoka has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites[edit]
Wovoka retains a single vacuum moon. It has striking similarities to Luna, Terra's moon.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
There are four major continents, six subcontinental landmasses, and numerous archipelagoes and islands. The land is crossed by forested mountain ranges. Large ice caps lie at both poles.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Wovoka is a member of (and the namesake of) of the Wovoka Arch, a minor cluster and trade route lying in the coreward-trailing quadrant of Aldebaran Sector. It is named for its distinctive curved shape on astrographic charts.
The world was originally settled by distinct, ancient tribal groups from Terra. The majority identify with tribal nations from the Terran North American region, but other historical indigenous groups also emigrated here. These cultures have a remarkable focus on traditional ethics and morality, with few of the extremist elements often found in some cultural groups. The name "Wovoka" is a historical reference to an ancient Terran shaman, who started a resistance effort against powerful enemies by developing a cultural touch-stone called "The Ghost Dance".
- Other Terran tribal groups settled worlds within the Wovoka Arch.
- The dolphin community is included as an officially recognized tribal nation, with full representation.
- There is considerable additional material available in the Wovoka worldnet.
The economy is based around aquaculture and game meats, in addition to a rapidly advancing technological and engineering base. While currently rated at TL–12, Wovokan technology has some areas that are nearer to TL–15. The technological-industrial bases on Wovoka's moon are largely forbidden to travellers except by invitation. Rumors insist that advanced jump research is being performed.
Scientists on the world have leveraged a historic tradition of herbalism and natural knowledge to make rapid advances in the production of anagathic compounds.
It is the capital of the subsector and the seat of Confederation authority.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Wovoka has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Wokova maintains two highports. The larger Kiba Highport caters to commercial traffic and the smaller Etsa'a Highport handles official and military vessels. All inbound traffic is required to make port at Kiba for customs and approval to continue onward.
World Population (P)[edit]
Wovoka has a population of 20,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
- Around 70% of the population (roughly 14 million individuals) is made up of Solomani humans.
- About 30% of the population (approximately 6 million individuals) consists of Dolphins.
Urbanization[edit]
The peoples of Wovoka make a consistent effort to minimize any harmful impact to their adopted world-mother. Even their largest urban areas take great technological and architectural care to integrate not only nature, but to leave intact as much of the major plant life as possible. Some peoples attempt to recreate (to an extent) the ways of their Terran ancestors, and have been breeding herds of Terran herd-beasts to aid in that aim, as there were no such fauna originally on Wovoka. Modern power sources are utilized strategically to allow an advanced technological society to flourish.
The Wovokan capitol city is located on the largest continent, Cherokee, and is named Sequoyah. Each continent has its own capitol and downport. The downport and its startown are always separate from the capitol, but usually connected by high-speed rail. The dolphin nation is centered around a three-island archipelago, which includes a dolphin-friendly downport and waterway connections, including speedy transit tubes, to the aqualogies.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Delphinic Trinary, the principal language of Dolphins.
- Terran tribal languages
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Wovoka possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
Wovoka has economic elements that operate in advance of this rating, but it is not possible to confirm current progress. Evidence indicates research into advanced jump technologies and hyper-efficient maneuver drives.
World Government (G)[edit]
Wovoka is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Military[edit]
Wovoka maintains a Starnavy with a dedicated Starmarine force, a wet Navy with its own marine forces, and a land-based Army. The Army, while adequately equipped, is largely dedicated to disaster relief and emergency response. Wovoka also has a considerable set of special forces teams.
The world-net notes two system fleets:
- Inner Fleet: made up of five dedicated destroyers with associated system defense craft. Two Sequoyah-class battleships are under construction, along with upward of ten heavy-cruisers and missile boats.
- Outer Fleet: a flotilla consisting of the newly commissioned Sequoyah battleship, a number of older Destroyer-class battleships and heavy cruisers, and various smaller escort vessels. Details and technical specifications are scarce, but given local information, it is likely that the navy uses Terran missile boat philosophies combined with the spinal mount meson weaponry historically used by Terran forces on their capital ships.
World Law (L)[edit]
Wovoka has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
