Huecar is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Grand United States of Quesada, which is a member state of the Solomani Confederation, in the Wovoka Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- It is a member of the Quesada Cluster.
- The world appears to have undergone Terraforming.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Huecar has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Huecar orbits within the prime region of its star's habitable zone.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Huecar is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Huecar has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences relatively high temperatures.
- High levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere push up the world's surface temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Huecar has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
There are three large equatorial seas as well as numerous lakes. Rivers run from the high mountains of the interior, draining via broad river valleys into the seas. The world has small polar ice caps.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- The high carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere and the warm climate make for a continual growing season. Plants grow very quickly on Huecar, and the trees are truly gigantic.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Huecar is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
It is a member of the Quesada Cluster, a small cluster and important trade route lying within the coreward-trailing quadrant of Canopus Sector.
Huecar appears to have been terraformed hundreds of thousands of years ago. It is home to extremely diverse types of flora and fauna, but none of the species present on the world are native, seemingly being descended from stock that originated on worlds from all across Charted Space. Additionally, those lifeforms seem to have been genetically modified to be broadly biologically compatible with one another, at least in terms of nutritional value. There is currently no scientific explanation of how this could have happened; the Church explains it as a clear example of divine intervention.
The Church has edicts in place requiring a certain level of "food purity", dictating how food can be sourced, slaughtered, and prepared. It also encourages the use of local spices and flavors, and sponsors an almost continual selection of cooking and baking contests and food-themed festivals. The food on this world makes accepting local manners and morals worthwhile.
The Quesadan Inquisition is active on the world and is vigorously supported by the government. It is a religiously sponsored investigative agency that is charged with rooting out heretical thinking. It has the authority to detain and question individuals.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Huecar has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
The Huecar starport is a major hub for business dealing, and provides excellent accommodations for travellers. The Travellers' Aid Society maintains a large hostel on Ring B of the downport. It is highly recommended that all travellers consult and coordinate with TAS before considering venturing outside of the Starport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Huecar has a population of 30,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
Urban centers have been designed and constructed using TL–13-TL–14 techniques, making them flexible, efficient, comfortable, and very secure.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Latin, an ancient Terran language used by the Church of Quesada.
- Quesadan Spanish, an Iberian Dialect of the Spanish subfamily of languages of Terran origin spoken principally in the Grand United States of Quesada.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
- It is a second language within the Grand United States.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Huecar possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Huecar is governed by a Religious Autocracy. This is a direct theocracy where the government head is a single person who is also the head of the religious organization. The Church hierarchy also serves as the government bureaucracy.
Huecar's leadership term themselves the "true sons of the Church", and have used every means in their power to make the population subjugate to the wisdom of the Holyman. They consider themselves to be the true inheritors of that wisdom, and look down on the "liberal" leadership of Quesada. The government is vigilant, all-seeing, and ever-ready to discipline wrongdoers. They pride themselves on the fact that Mercy in some form is always shown – particularly to those who tithe generously.
World Law (L)[edit]
Huecar has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). All aspects of life rigidly controlled with disproportionate punishments for even minor legal infractions. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized, though not routine.
