Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Church of Quesada is a branch of Christianity with its roots on Terra. It is closely associated with the Turin Rite churches.
Its core texts are the Quesadan Bible and it continues rites, practices, and traditions that have endured for millennia. It has a strict hierarchy and a number of gender restrictions based on biblical teachings. It is generally benelovent and overall seeks to enforce decent, balanced moral and cultural values. Its followers have a preferred dress code, particularly when within ecclesiastical structures such as churches.
The vast majority of the faithful are Solomani Humans.
The Church receives a huge amount of income from lands, properties, holdings, businesses, patents, ancient rights and tithes, donations, contributions, and gifts of various kinds. It does not pay taxes to either the Solomani Confederation or the Grand United States.
Various religious orders exist, as well as secluded monasteries and hermitages.
- The Danubian Sect is considered heretical.
The Grand United States[edit]
The Church of Quesada is the state religion of the Grand United States of Quesada. Churches and chapels are found in every community and religious leaders are important, respected figures. A number of worlds lying beyond the borders of the Grand United States follow the faith.
- Religious festivals, typically marking significant events or the days sacred to saints or important religious figures, are held throughout the year.
- Families each have a bound and illustrated copy of the Quesadan Bible, traditionally passed from father to eldest son. The Church procures and provides additional books as needed, at no cost, though the quality is significantly below that of an heirloom example.
Sancta Sedes[edit]
The Sancta Sedes -- the seat of the Church -- is located on Quesada, the capital of the Grand United States of Quesada. It is a vast range of magnificent buildings centered on a huge domed cathedral.
- The cathedral, its various ancillary structures, and a small region of city surrounding it are considered an independent political entity to both the world of Quesada and the Grand United States.
- Sancta Sedes maintains its own small defense force, made up of elite personnel and equipped to the highest technological standards.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The holy texts and dictates of past religious authorities set boundaries for social interaction, private conduct, and public expectations. "Traditional" gender roles are enshrined in law on many worlds, affecting dress, speech, occupation, and legal remedies.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on the Church to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while a few see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.
Symbols[edit]
The Cross of St James (the Cruz de Santiago) -- a symbol combining a crucifix and a stylized sword. The crosspiece has a fleur-de-lis at both ends, representing honor and purity as well as the Holy Trinity. The sword denotes "defense of the faith".
Linguistic Topography[edit]
As well as local languages, the Church uses Latin, an ancient Terran language. All of its holy books are written and read in Latin.
The Inquisition[edit]
Generally the Church of Quesada is a benevolent organization, offering spiritual guidance and support, providing physical assistance typically through the distribution of alms, and acting as an anchor and focus for the communities that it serves. However, those holding outspoken atheist or agnostic views, or those who follow beliefs that the Church of Quesada opposes, are sought out by a secretive organization called the Quesadan Inquisition. Such individuals can be imprisoned for their beliefs.
- The organization has its headquarters on Quesada.
- So-called Prisoners of Faith are held in detention centers and correctional facilities on Aguila.
The Inquisition uses a red Cruz de Santiago as its symbol.
Inquisitors hold the religious rank of Cardinal.
