• It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
• It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Sephi Hydra Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

• This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
• This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
• This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.

Hodel is tidally locked to its primary star.

• The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
• The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

It orbits at the outer edge of the habitable zone.

• It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)

Hodel is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Hodel has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

• It experiences low temperatures within the twilight zone.

The atmosphere is a dense mixture of nitrogen and methane. A respirator, air supply, and heavy clothing are required outside of sealed habitats.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Hodel has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water and water-ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.

• The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
• Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
• The world-ocean is littered with icebergs and pack ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Exotic aquatic native life occupying a few specialist ecological niches. Its metabolic functions help drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

• Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in low temperatures.
• They will rapidly die in environmental conditions suitable for humans.

History & Background (Dossier)

Hodel is a colony of Simonides, often promoted as Simonides II in marketing campaigns due to its similarities to its ruling world. The technologies, structures, industries, and way of life are essentially a duplicate of Simonides, making starting the colony much simpler. Simonides invested heavily in developing the world, constructing a full-service Class A starport in order to make further development easier.

The population follows the Church of Quesada. The Quesadan Inquisition has no authority on the world.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)

Hodel has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)

Hodel has a population of 5,000,000 sophonts (millions).

• This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
• The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
