Besos is a non-agricultural, pre-industrial world with few economic prospects.

  • It orbits the system's secondary star.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Quesada Cluster.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Besos is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a white main sequence.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
Besos has two stars in the star system.

Notes[edit]

The two stars of the Besos system have an average separation of 85 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

  • The mainworld, orbiting the secondary star.
  • x5 secondary rocky worlds. Three orbit the primary star, two orbit the secondary star.
  • x4 gas giants. Three orbit the primary star, one orbits the secondary star.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Besos is tidally locked to the system's secondary star.

  • The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
  • The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Besos is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Besos has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Besos has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Most planetary features are large craters. The largest is 600 km wide, and over 50 km deep in the ring around the center. The central spire is higher, as the magma welled-up there post-impact. It is known as Besos' Hole.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Besos is a member of the Quesada Cluster, a small cluster and important trade route lying within the coreward-trailing quadrant of Canopus Sector.

Besos appears to be the end result of a largely metallic planetoid belt amalgamating into a planetary body over billions of years. Many systems have a planetoid belt; Besos has Besos.

This planet is rich with metallic and radioactive resources, and has attracted investment from across the Grand United States and the Solomani Confederation. Governments and corporations have designed and build urban centers to make it easy to attract labor and talent that will ensure an economy that will supply their needs.

The population is made up of humans from across the Grand United States, and their Church has followed them. As a result, the culture is relatively conservative and largely abides by the dictates of the Church, though there is considerable laxity in enforcement and a growing less-conservative minority. The government is freely elected: any individual resident on the world for a standard year prior to the election may vote.

The Quesadan Inquisition is known to be active on the world. It is a religiously sponsored investigative agency that is charged with rooting out heretical thinking. It has the authority to detain and question individuals.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Besos has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Besos has a population of 20,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Urbanization[edit]

Three urban centers are located near particularly rich ore sites. These cities are built at TL–12, courtesy of Quesada. Personal and industrial technologies are typically TL–10, as fits the needs of a mining operation.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Besos possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Besos is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Besos has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]

Surface mining. Besos is the metal source for most of the Grand United States of Quesada.
