Orizaba is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Grand United States of Quesada, which is a member state of the Solomani Confederation, in the Firdausi Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Orizaba is a very small world, tidally-locked, with no atmosphere orbiting well outside the solar life-zone.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

1 line of mountains cross the twilight zone just north of the trailing point.

World Starport[edit]

Orizaba has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Orizaba Highport is a good quality starport. The starport system is operated by a professional Confederation staff, independent of the planetary government.

Orizaba Downport is located at the planetary trailing point on the twilight zone. It appears to be well-equipped for large craft maintenance, taking advantage of the low planetary gravity.

World Technology Level[edit]

Orizaba possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Orizaba is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

World Law Level[edit]

Orizaba has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Culture[edit]

The society is heavily influenced by the Church, with a high prelate titled "Archbischof" representing the Church within the Orizaba cluster. Church sanctioned dress, occupational standards, and personal interaction rules are largely followed in the capitol; perhaps, a bit more flexibly in the other cities.

Considerable, visible surveillance technology is deployed in most urban areas. Police forces are present, but in small numbers.

Urbanization[edit]

The Orizaba capitol and startown, eponymously named, is located 10km from the downport by high-speed rail and heavy-cargo rail.

Orizaba itself is constructed using Tech-12 techniques and designs recognizably imported from Quesada. The interior spaces were comfortable and well-kempt, with artificial solar lighting styles.

3 other similar cities have been constructed along the nearby mountain ridge.

All the cities are linked by the commerical and industrial rail lines. Grav paths are also defined for individual civilian craft using Confederation-standard beacons and navigation.
