Salamis is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Wovoka Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the Orient Worlds.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Salamis is a binary star system.
- The primary is an orange main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
- They are close companions.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 planetoid belts.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Salamis is tidally locked to the system's two stars.
- The stars are always high in the sky on the bright face, they hang on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the stars to move in the sky.
It orbits at the inner edge of the habitable zone.[2]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Salamis is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Salamis has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Salamis has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
There is tectonic activity all across Salamis, producing groundquakes and active volcanos.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
No native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Salamis is a member of the Orient Worlds, a small group of systems in the spinward-rimward corner of Wovoka Subsector, in Aldebaran Sector.
The world is denser than average, as it contains an unusually high amount of uranium, thorium, and classically precious metals. Though Salamis is small, it has a hot, spinning center that generates a strong magnetic field. This core is highly unique in that it spins within a planet that is, on the surface, tidally-locked. As a result, there is active scientific debate on the possibility of terraforming Salamis and creating an atmosphere.
The Europan-transplanted culture is strongly military-influenced, and the Anglic spoken is punctuated with obscure combat acronyms.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while many see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Salamis has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Salamis has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Salamis possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government (G)[edit]
Salamis has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
The world is directly administered by Europa and is governed by Salamis Central Committee, personally appointed by the Europan Dictat. The committee is backed up by a substantial Europan military presence, both in-system and planet-side.
World Military[edit]
The equivalent of two Army divisions are deployed planet-side, under Europan Starforce command.
A flotilla consisting of 2 to 4 Europan heavy cruisers armed as missile boats, along with various escort and support vessels, are here at any given time. Solomani Navy capital ships are welcomed during their occasional port visits.
World Law (L)[edit]
Salamis has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 1 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: D (very abundant)
- Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 9 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 8 (very confusing)
- Symbols: C (very abstract)
