Mainworld Data[edit]

Unforgiving is an old world, a tidally-locked desert world on the inner ring of the habitable zone. It holds a thin, breathable atmosphere, that produces strong katabatic winds and storms due to the stark temperature difference across the hemispheres. The cold pole has a small section of water ice, but the temperatures are -60C there.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Low mountain ranges criss-cross the world, with stretches of sand between them. There is some evidence of oceans being present in the distant past.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

None. It's a rock. An academic team is petitioning for funding to search for a fossil record on the Unforgiving worldnet.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Of the four naval bases in its subsector, the base at Unforgiving was by far the most important. Unforgiving houses a reserve battle group intended to reinforce the Gemini Subsector or join an attack on the Imperium if necessary.

World Starport[edit]

Unforgiving has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The Unforgiving Highport, Markusten, is a good quality installation operated by a local military contingent. It is very clean.

All inbound traffic are required to respond immediately to Markusten upon being hailed. The second communication will either be a precise approach vector for docking at the high port, or an authorization to intercept and destroy sent to Solomani Naval units. These Naval units typically will "take it under advisement" and are under no requirement to open fire; they will usually rendezvous with the inbound ship and offer friendly advice like "it's probably best if you refuel and leave at this point."

All docking starcraft are subject to search and seizure. Scout service starcraft are exempt. All others are boarded by marines, followed by law enforcement officers. Shipboard small-arms are confiscated. Recreational chemicals including alcohol are confiscated. An opportunity to declare any trade goods is offered, and those declared trade goods are usually respected. Resistance results in summary execution for violators, and imprisonment for their associates.

Once the inspection is complete, travellers may either sell their trade-goods on station, or apply for a permit to continue on to one of the two downports, Downport A and Downport B. Downport A is closer to the city of Capitol. Arriving starcraft at the Downports are subject to inspection upon docking, as above. Once inspected, travellers can access the entirety of the Downport and conduct business. Be aware that customs officers can and will question and search travellers at any given time while at the Downports.

Travellers can apply for an entry visa to access public transport and visit the urban zones, including Capitol; these visas are typically granted for 1 to 7 24-hour periods. Immigration visas are also available, and require a background check which usually takes 2 months to complete, during which the applicant is assigned quarters in an urban zone and expected to seek out employment. A prioritized list of employment opportunities is provided. Applicants are also subject to conscription in lieu of civilian employment, or may apply directly to the enlistment board.

World Technology Level[edit]

Unforgiving possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Unforgiving is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are young governments, coming as a recent change and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

The President-for-life is currently High Admiral Harrison Yarwhal, who displaced a previous president-for-life under violent circumstances. President Yarwhal has the complete faith of the planetary military, and has given some hope to the civilian population with his law-and-order campaign and emphasis on personal achievement. Note that Admiral Yarwhal is not a currently serving Solomani officer, but recently officially retired.

World Law Level[edit]

Unforgiving has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. Most worlds with this law level may be an Amber Zone or Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. There is no difference between the police and the military. This world is a full-fledged police state. Oppression is legalized, though not routine.

Travellers with a background in law enforcement or as military officers may be given professional courtesy if polite.

World Military[edit]

Military forces and their police units are pervasive.

World Economy[edit]

Water farming at the local gas giant is a cottage industry, performed largely by military units.

Planet-side, there are plentiful, and easily accessible resources of a wide variety of metals and other valuable materials. The local industrial complex is overwhelmed with an embarrassment of riches, as it were.

Work is compulsory, barring medical disability. The most able workers, male and female, are subject to conscription on an as-needed basis. Workers without military records form a lower class, with limited opportunity. Even ex-military with a a bad-conduct-discharge ("big chicken dinner") can usually find better jobs or at least supervisory positions. In general, there is considerable competition for talent in all aspects of the economy.

Travellers can easily find employment on Unforgiving, but may find it difficult to quit.
