Norumbega Subsector is subsector L of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a frontier region of the Solomani Confederation.
- It was once known as République Subsector.
Description (Specifications)
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Norumbega Subsector:
Astrographic Features
The subsector is a generally unremarkable area lying on the rimward frontier of the Solomani Confederation.
- It is a relatively low stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the white main sequence primary of the Genthiane system.
Stellar Distribution
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Norumbega Subsector.
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Economic Astrography
Corporations
Corporations and organizations active within the subsector include:
- Panstellar, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Solar Shipping, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Transstar, a Solomani megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics.
Trade Routes
Two minor trade routes, the Coeur Cluster and the Coilin Trace, lie within the region. Solomani Confederation authorities have declared the Coilin Trace to be off limits to interstellar travel.
Coeur Cluster
The Coeur Cluster lies along the rimward edge of the subsector. It has seven member systems and is named for the world of Sacre-Coeur.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Worlds within the Cluster are highlighted in brown.
Coilin Trace
The Coilin Trace has six member systems and straddles the border between Aldebaran Sector and Neworld Sector.
It is also known as the Solomani Confederation Restricted Zone.
- It is a region directly controlled by the Solomani Confederation military.
- Access to its systems is restricted.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Worlds within the Trace are highlighted in brown.
Security & Defense
The worlds of the region are patrolled by the Solomani Navy. It defends Confederation territory, protects Confederation interests, suppresses piracy, and ensures interstellar trade and commerce.
- Confederation vessels may demand customs inspections.
- Some systems are defended by local naval forces.
World Listing
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Norumbega Subsector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
History & Background (Dossier)
During the Rule of Man the subsector was associated with the Terran Mercantile Community, a large paramilitary corporation that became the foundation for the Old Earth Union during the Long Night.
Polity Listing
The following polities can be found within this subsector:
- Solomani Confederation (Solomani powers)
- Solomani Confederation Restricted Zone (SoRz).
- Various member systems and worlds (SoCf).
Native Sophonts
No Native Intelligent Lifeforms (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this subsector.
Demographics
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Solomani (Major Race): widely spread across the region.
- Non-Human Races
- Taureans of Taurea (Minor Race): diminutive furry sophonts occasionally met in the company of their human carers.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
- Taurean, the principal language of the Taureans.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium. It is almost exclusively spoken on the world of Genthiane.

Subsector Summary
Norumbega, subsector L of Aldebaran, contains 18 worlds with an estimated combined population of 5 billion, a per capita income of Cr7,556, and a total economy of BCr44,203. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr1,076 through 16 starports (2 Class A, 6 Class B, 8 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 176,210 people. Driving this interstellar trade are two Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, one Rich (Ri) world, and one Industrial (In) world. The governments in République maintain two Naval bases, and two Military bases. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 5 and 12). The highest technology level is 14 at Denali (Aldebaran 2724).
Norumbega, subsector L of Aldebaran contains 24 stars and 179 identified planets; 12 monostellar systems, six binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 16 of the 18 systems (88%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, no Desert (De) worlds, no Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, two Poor (Po) worlds, one Vacuum (Va) world, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.
Norumbega has an estimated population of 5 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, one Moderate population (Ph) world, one Non-industrial (Ni) world, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and two Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Amiti 3 (Aldebaran 2524), Denali (Aldebaran 2724), and Ob (Aldebaran 2625). The population primarily consists of 1 sophont group.
