Ob is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.

  • This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
  • This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
  • This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Ob is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a white main sequence.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
Ob has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Ob is a young, small world with a deep, dense N2 atmosphere, and a large world ocean of standard water.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Ob is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

  • It has a higher than standard density and a surface gravity of 0.63 G.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Ob has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Ob has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

The world has a hot core and very active tectonics. There are many mountain ranges with peaks above 13000 m.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Ob is strategically positioned on a J-3/J-4 trading hub. As such, it is supported with a Confederation Naval Base and a full Marine support base.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Ob has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Ob Downport is located on a high plateau in the shadow of the Scarbacks, a major mountain range. Ob Highport is a standard, good quality station operated by the Naval personnel deployed in-system.

World Population (P)[edit]

Ob has a population of 2,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Urbanization[edit]

Obbitton is the site of the startown and the world's primary urban area: most inhabited areas are tunneled deep into the Scarbacks, a jagged mountain range forming the spine of one of the world's continents. The population refers to themselves somewhat humorously as Obbits.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Ob possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Ob is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law (L)[edit]

Ob has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]

The local economy centers around trade for advanced materials and goods.
