The Taureans of Taurea (Aldebaran 0531) are a technologically sophisticated Minor Non-Human Race with a Non-humanoid appearance.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Taureans are a broadly mammalianoid sophont minor race native to Taurea. They are physically very small -- though solidly built -- typically measuring about 30 cm in height and weighing in the region of 20 kg. They are covered in dense fur that insulates them and helps protect the body from impacts.
Taureans are trilateral, with a barrel-shaped torso supported by a dense internal skeleton that surrounds the internal organs. They have three legs projecting equidistantly downwards from the lower part of the torso, with the upper musculature of the legs almost entirely encasing the body. They have three arms projecting from around the center of the torso, each ending in hand-like manipulators with three long digits. Rather than utilizing a skeleto-muscular system for movement and motion they instead use a hydraulic system, expanding and shrinking fluid-filled sacs within their limbs and fingers to shorten, lengthen, stiffen, or brace them.
Taurean sensory organs are principally located in a small head located on the top of the torso, while the brain lies in the upper part of the torso. Taurean brain size is small -- only about 40 cm3 in volume compared to the 1400 cm3 of the average Human, but it is very densely packed with neurons. While Taureans never attain the levels of intelligence of even an average Human, for their size they are extremely smart. Taurean senses tend not to be as sharp as those of Humans, but they have an extremely well developed natural sensitivity to magnetic and electrical fields.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Taureans can be found alongside their Human "carers" on a number of worlds in rimward Aldebaran Sector. They are generally not considered intelligent enough to navigate interstellar society without supervision.
Billions live more traditional lives on Taurea itself.
