Weinberg is a moderate population, non-agricultural and preindustrial, icy vacuum world, with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Its surface is ice-capped with little or no atmosphere and nearly all of its water frozen.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It is a world working toward being an industrial powerhouse but lacks an adequate workforce to do so at this time. Immigration is being encouraged and promoted. This world needs workers.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the The Barrens (Al I) Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • This world has a nearby Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
  • This world has a nearby Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.

System Data[edit]

4 Gas Giants — 2 Planetoid Belts — 5 Other Worlds

Mainworld Data[edit]

Weinburg is a small, ice-capped vacuum world with a higher-than-expected gravity. The ice-pack is found at the cold-pole.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Weinburg is a Small World between 2,400km and 4,000km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.1G and 0.17G. The horizon will appear about 2.5km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Weinburg has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Weinburg has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

The planet Weinberg is an embarrassment of riches, with easily accessible veins of metal ores often of sizes visible from orbit. Even heavy radioactives are available in plenitude.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Weinberg was named to honor an ancient Terran scientist associated with the original Terran invention of nuclear fission reactors.

World Starport[edit]

Weinberg has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Weinberg Outbound is a relatively low-altitude high port in a polar orbit that follows the twilight zone. High-capacity mass-drivers are used to launch loads from each downport zone into its orbit for rendezvous. Outbound cargo is typically metal-ingot containers.

Weinberg Inbound is a higher-altitude high port whose orbit matches the position of the local systems to allow for convenient delivery of cargo from those systems. All traffic is required to dock with Weinberg Inbound upon entering the system unless granted permission for a direct pick-up from Weinberg Outbound, reasonable diversions for gas giant refueling, or scientific endeavors.

Weinberg Leading or "Lead" is located on the twilight zone on the orbit-facing side of the planet. It has a full set of downport landing facilities, heavy-rail connections to primary mining sites, warehousing, and business districts. A primary and secondary mass driver set are in frequent operation moving freight to Weinberg Outbound.

Weinberg Trailing or "Tail" is a close twin of Lead, but is more densely packed, as the danger of inbound rocks is less.

A Class-D Downport, Polar Control, exists at the Cold Pole itself for civilian transport and freight deliveries. Also noted were a number of long-range energy weapon batteries and high-boost missile systems for planetary defense.

World Technology Level[edit]

Weinberg possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Weinberg is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

The current Prime Minister is Arthur Harragdin, third of his line, of Region South 3. Apprentice Minister Sonya Harragdin stands in his place.

There are approximately 25 regional ministers on the cold side, and 40 regional ministers on the warm side. Ministerships have a 20-year term, with new ministers being appointed by the outgoing minister after a period of apprenticeship. On rare occasion, a Prime Minister has overridden an appointment, even insisting on the outgoing minister remain in office. Prime Ministers have a 5 year term and are chosen by ministerial vote from a slate of the top 5 ministers based on the cleanness of their balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and overall payroll of the lower 50% of their employee base. Prime Minister elections are timed such that a Prime Minister is elected 2 years after the ministerial election cycle. The Remaining PM usually has his or her ministership assumed by their AM during that time, thus ruling as "lame duck" (Ancient Terran term).

World Law Level[edit]

Weinberg has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

Strict laws regarding airlock-use, atmosphere maintenance, and equipment maintenance are in place primarily as a result of a series of fatal accidents, as are prone to happen on a cold, vacuum world. Also, given the relatively high population of Weinberg and limited organic resources, there are equally strict laws around food, air, water, recycling, and internal ecology. "Waste will get you wasted" was one public service announcement displayed. A scrolling list of deceased violators was also present.

World Military[edit]

Weinberg Patrol is a large and pervasive organization that patrols for safety violations. Originally, it seems, they focused on air leaks and equipment failures, before evolving into a preemptive law enforcement agency. Special Weapons Division acts as the military arm of the Patrol. The Patrol also has specialist Divisions who act as first responders in the cases of disasters.

Given the strategic value of Weinberg, the Solomani Conferation maintains both a Naval and Marine Military base within the system. Weinberg Military Base is located in mountainous region just outside the icepack toward Trailing Downport. Weinberg Naval Station is 5 degrees trailing in its orbit. The bases are connected by high-bandwidth line-of-sight communications.

World Economy[edit]

Mineral extraction and initial processing forms the basis for the global economy. The local systems of Kolomyla and Taurea often send "bounties" to Weinberg as specific metal and mineral requests.

The profits from trade have been used to dominate and now control the world of Elation, which has become a potential vacation world for Weinberg.

Trade Data[edit]

Metal ingots and powders are the primary export, and everything is openly available on local metals markets. Prices are inexpensive to cheap compared to recent Imperial prices.

Imports include food, soil, hydroponics equipment, entertainment features, digitized literature, et Al. Some of it comes from standing orders, other materials are brought in "on spec" by small traders hoping to turn a large profit. Weinberg natives also will issue their own bounties for specific materials to local worlds.
