History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Grand United States of Quesada is a lively republic -- it has a rich Hispanic cultural heritage, a strong religious faith, and prides itself on its music, dance, flavorful food, and strong drink. It is known across the sector for its chaotic, drama-filled political arena.
Recently, the Quesadans have been plagued by an inordinate amount of political upheaval: they have seen three Grande Presidantes in as many years: SolSec is widely believed to have had a hand in ousting them from power.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on activities and events within the polity to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information.
Symbols[edit]
The flag of the Grand United States has 21 stars, one for each member system, and three bars, representing both the three subsectors it lies across and the three clusters that it occupies all or part of. It incorporates the symbol of the Solomani Confederation.
Demographics[edit]
One century after the end of the Solomani Rim War, census totals indicate the population of the Grand United States of Quesada is more than 80 billion sophonts.

The most commonly heard languages are:
- Quesadan Spanish, an Iberian Dialect of the Spanish subfamily of languages of Terran origin spoken principally in the Grand United States.
- Latin, an ancient Terran language used by the Church of Quesada
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.

A constructed interlingua based on Anglic, devised by the Solomani Party in order to overcome communication barriers created by the many diverse languages and dialects that have arisen over the centuries within the region since the time of the Terran Confederation. Faith & Belief (Religion)[edit]
Religious faith is held to be a core value of the Grand United States. Churches and chapels are found in every community and religious leaders are important, respected figures.
The state religion is the Church of Quesada, a form of Christianity with its roots on Terra and rites and practices that have endured for millennia. It has a strict hierarchy and a number of gender restrictions based on traditional teachings. Various religious orders exist, as well as secluded monasteries and hermitages.
- Religious festivals, typically marking significant events or the days sacred to saints or important religious figures, are held throughout the year.
- Families each have a bound and illustrated copy of the Quesadan Bible, traditionally passed from father to eldest son. The Church procures and provides additional books as needed, at no cost, though the quality is significantly below that of an heirloom example.
Sancta Sedes[edit]
The Grand United States contains the Sancta Sedes -- the seat of the Church of Quesada, located on Quesada. It is a vast range of magnificent buildings centered on a huge domed cathedral.
- The cathedral, its various ancillary structures, and a small region of city surrounding it are considered an independent political entity to both the world of Quesada and the Grand United States.
- Sancta Sedes maintains its own small defense force, made up of elite personnel and equipped to the highest technological standards.
The Inquisition[edit]
Despite its ebullient and relaxed reputation, the Grand United States has a far darker side: widespread and systemic religious intolerance. Those not professing faith can find themselves shunned and passed over for promotions and advancements. Those holding outspoken atheist or agnostic views, or those who follow beliefs that the Church of Quesada opposes, are sought out by a secretive organization called the Quesadan Inquisition and can be imprisoned for their beliefs. These Prisoners of Faith are held in detention centers and correctional facilities on Aguila.
- Nobody expects the Quesadan Inquisition.
- Inquisitors hold the religious rank of Cardinal.

- -4045 to -2204: The Ziru Sirka controls vast territories.
- -2431: Terrans discover jump drive technology.
- -2404 to -2215: The Interstellar Wars. The young Terran Confederation battles against the ancient Vilani Ziru Sirka.
- -2204 to -1776: The Rule of Man administers the former Ziru Sirka.
- -1999: The Aslan gain jump drive technology.
- -1862 to -1110: The Terran Mercantile Community is active within the region.
- -1776 to 0: The Long Night.
- -1118 to 380: The Aslan Border Wars.
- -1110 to 588: The Terran Mercantile Community gradually becomes the Old Earth Union, shrinking to control the region around Terra.
- The Year 0: To coreward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the worlds of the region.
- 380: The Peace of Ftahalr ends the ongoing Aslan Border Wars and establishes understandings regarding Human and Aslan influence.
- 588: The Old Earth Union and the former territories of the Terran Mercantile Community are annexed by the Imperium, moving its border adjacent to the Aslan Hierate.
