History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
- Star's End is divided by the Lesser Rift into two separate regions that do not typically interact.
- The coreward side of the rift within the sector is a somewhat unremarkable corner of the Lorean Hegemony, which is part of the larger Julian Protectorate. This region was generally unsettled except by a few Julian stragglers and ex-patriots until the Lorean Hegemony expanded into the area in the late 800s Imperial Calendar. Finding little beside a truculent artifact of the Ancients in the local systems, the Loreans settled unopposed. Under the Loreans, this part of the sector became part of the Julian Protectorate in the 900s.
- The rimward edge of the sector, on the other hand, had been settled thousands of years earlier. Already home to a thin community of Ziru Sirka ex-patriots and political exiles following the Consolidation Wars, the region, including parts of Gateway Sector further rimward, was tentatively explored by a far-reaching branch of the K'kree in the late -3000s. Though the exact events are not known outside of K'kree archives (and possibly not even there), several worlds were settled by K'kree in the centuries afterward. Whether from population growth or additional ships from the Two Thousand Worlds, the number of worlds settled by the K'kree steadily grew over time. A surge around -2000, shortly after the Hiver-K'kree War, would lead the somewhat scattered K'kree worlds here to unify, annex promising systems further spinward, and adopt a defensive stance with new fleet construction. Though they considered themselves part of the Two Thousand Worlds, these K'kree also understood that the stars between them and Kirur were not always safe. Their claims to territory in Star's End would peak at roughly 40 systems.
- The K'kree, confident in their technological and ideological superiority, reigned unopposed until early in the Third Imperium era. As human populations increased in Gateway Sector, piracy and other activities increased with them, including settlement at a rapid pace. Several such states rose near the K'kree. One in particular was too close, but suffered a bloody internal revolution before the K'kree could decide what to do about them. To their horror, the revolution became a drive to expand, and roughly a quarter of the systems proactively claimed by the K'kree were settled by the new and aggressive Hochiken People's Assembly. Not truly prepared for war, the Star's End K'kree pragmatically decided that if they hadn't gotten around to using those worlds in two thousand years, they probably didn't need them. They drew the line there, however, letting the Hochiken leadership know in clear terms that there would be no further real estate transfers. That state of affairs has held ever since, though the ideology of the Hochiken has led to some tense moments.
- Observers who are familiar with the K'kree admit to being puzzled by this chain of events, as it is notably atypical of the K'kree to cede territory or tolerate dangerous neighbors.

- Non-Human Races

Demographics: 1116[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Non-Human Races
- Jgd-il-Jagd (a clade 7 parsecs wide centred around Gh'kabrroo -- another example of the oddly accepting nature of local K'kree)
- K'kree (Major Race)
- T'tnaree
- Terragens (Non-Human Terran Races)
Religions[edit]
The state religion of the Hegemony of Lorean is the Unified Cultus of the Deified Man. The central drive of this religion is to prepare all mankind for godhood, led by a Deified Man, created by scientific, materialistic means. This is an extremely martial and disciplined religion; while the Cultus itself is less than five centuries old, it is the descendant of a long chain of similar militaristic, historically anti-Vargr religions. Marching chants and mass drill-like ceremonies dominate public worship.
Both the Last Man and unique local religions hold sway in Star's End, with Christianity and Islam also making deep inroads as of 900 Imperial onward.

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this sector:
- Circa -3000s: Rimward parts of the sector are tentatively explored by a far-reaching branch of the K'kree.
- Several worlds are settled by K'kree in the centuries afterwards.
- 312: A clade of Jgd-il-Jagd is established in rimward Star's End; the K'kree cautiously choose to relate to them as "fellow vegetarians".
- 425-432: Across the sector border to rimward, in Gateway Sector, the Hochiken Republic is established after a series of workers' revolts against the Vanadian Cartel.
- 590: To the K'kree settlements' initial alarm, the Hochiken government is overthrown in a military coup, becoming the Hochiken People's Assembly.
- 814: The Third Imperium and the Arzula authorities forge a trading agreement, leading to the creation of the Deep Space Stations of the Saeghvung-Turley-Exile Run, crossing the Lesser Rift in Empty Quarter Sector to spinward.
- 822-835: Directly to coreward, much of Arzul Sector is conquered by the Arzula.
- 864: The modern Hegemony of Lorean is founded, starting out as a 'trade and aid' group of interstellar traders centred on a cluster of high-population systems dominating Mycocona Subsector, in Arzul Sector.
- The great success of this trade coalition leads to a sharp rise of economic and then military power, and expansion into regions including coreward Star's End.
- 933-936: The defection of the Damlaer Union from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony leads to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
- 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.

- Hegemony of Lorean
- The concept of Arzulan Hegemony predates the official Hegemony of Lorean by around a century, leading to some occasional confusion in historical records.
- There are an endless number of pro-Hegemony secret societies within the government, which tend to fight each other (in a restrained fashion) when they aren't attacking anti-Hegemonio subversives (with wild abandon, cold efficiency, or unleashed ferocity, depending on the nature of the group).

Trade Routes (Economic Astrography)[edit]
The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this area:
Mains, Branches & Arms[edit]
There is only one notable main located primarily in the sector. The next largest main present in Star's End is located mostly in other sectors.
- The Lekedaa Branch is a moderate size, three branched main located primarily in Hkur! Subsector, though it stretches into Ekoop Subsector and barely steps into Lowton Subsector in Gateway Sector and Tur Subsector in Gh!hken Sector. The portion of the main which extends into Gateway Sector includes Drasheveen, the one world on the main not dominated completely by the K'kree.
- The so-called Dotagrun Main, named after the term Vargr explorers used for the region, straddles the corner with Arzul Sector, Amdukan Sector, and Empty Quarter Sector.
Clusters & Traces[edit]
- Abuish Cluster: Three systems, the remainder in Empty Quarter Sector.
- Horns of K!mbe: Nine systems in Ekoop Subsector.
