Carcosa Subsector is subsector J of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a frontier region of the Solomani Confederation.
- It is also widely known as Epsilon Tauri Subsector.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding the subsector:
Astrographic Features[edit]
The subsector is a generally unremarkable area lying within the Solomani Confederation.
- It is a relatively low stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the blue giant primary of the Beta Tauri system.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Carcosa Subsector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Economic Astrography[edit]
Corporations[edit]
Corporations and organizations active within the subsector include:
- ConTech, a corporation specializing in life sciences, particularly large-scale bio-terraforming projects, medicine, and cloning.
- Lamarck Minerals, a corporation with a relatively small core area of operations in the Solomani Rim, but with growing interests in resource extraction and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Orion Metallurgy Corporation (OMC), engaged in resource exploration, extraction, and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Panstellar, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Probable Technologies, a scientific research organization involved with both academia and heavy industry, as well as the Confederation military.
- Solomani Shipping, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Transstar, a Solomani megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics. It operates across 13 sectors, represented by the 13 stars in its logo.
Trade Routes[edit]
One trade route, the Belarius Cluster, lies within the region. High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along it, carrying large amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
Less profitable higher jump rating merchant vessels conduct trade and commerce among the region's scattered worlds.
Belarius Cluster[edit]
The Belarius Cluster has five member systems. It lies along the coreward edge of the subsector and is named for Belarius, an important member world.
- Worlds within the Cluster are highlighted in brown.
World Listing[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds that lie within Carcosa Subsector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
During the Rule of Man the subsector was associated with the Terran Mercantile Community, a large paramilitary corporation that became the foundation for the Old Earth Union during the Long Night.
While the region promotes itself as a vibrant melting-pot of Terran culture, there are many underlying tensions and rivalries between ethnic and cultural groups stretching back for millennia.
- Language Translators command premium prices.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
Polity Listing[edit]
The following polities can be found within this subsector:
- Solomani Confederation (Solomani powers)
Security & Defense[edit]
The worlds of the region are patrolled by the Solomani Navy. It defends Confederation territory, protects Confederation interests, suppresses piracy, and ensures interstellar trade and commerce.
- Confederation vessels may demand customs inspections.
- Some systems are defended by local naval forces.
The Solomani Navy operates couriers and packet ships to carry communications and mail within the Confederation. Some of the routes they make use of predate the founding of the Solomani Autonomous Region in the early 8th Century, while others have more modern origins, being established following the Solomani Rim War and Solomani independence.
- Multiple communications routes cross the subsector.
Native Sophonts[edit]
The following Native Intelligent Lifeforms (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this subsector.
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Daphnians of Daphnis (possible Minor Human Race): Humans with uncertain but very old origins. Physiologically, they only slightly differ from the Solomani baseline.
Demographics[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Daphnians (possible Minor Human Race): Almost entirely restricted to their homeworld.
- Solomani (Major Race): Widely spread across the region.
- Non-Human Races
- Taureans of Taurea (Minor Race): Diminutive furry sophonts regularly seen in the company of Human carers.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Daphnian Languages: Multiple local languages exist on Daphnis but are rarely heard offworld.
- The most widely spoken are Daphnian-Nord, Daphnian-Sud, and High Daphnian.
- Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.
- German, a Terran language that is spoken across the Confederation.
- Nihongo, a Terran language occasionally heard within the Solomani Confederation. It is the principal dialect of the language known in Anglic as Japanese.
- Quesadan Spanish, a Terran language principally spoken in the Grand United States of Quesada.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
- Carcosa-north and Carcosa-south, local dialects of Rim Anglic spoken on Carcosa.
- Taurean, the principal language of the Taureans.
