Daphnis is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Carcosa Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
- It is the homeworld of the Daphnians.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Daphnis has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x11 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Daphnis orbits just inside the inner region of the star's habitable zone.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Daphnis is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Daphnis has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
- It experiences relatively high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Daphnis has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
Satellites[edit]
Daphnis retains two small moons.
- They orbit once every few days.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Two small polar oceans and a number of large lakes and seas exist on Daphnis, but the world is dominated by vast arid desert regions. Several high mountain ranges run across the world.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms thrive in very arid conditions.
- Some species appear to to have been transplanted to the world hundreds of thousands of years ago.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Daphnis is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.
- Travel to this world is prohibited.
It is the homeworld of the Daphnians. They are an ancient culture who may possibly be descended from Rule of Man-era colonists, they may be survivors of a shipwrecked Vilani vessel, or they may perhaps be a previously unrecognized Minor Human Race. Until very recently, Daphnis was a closed world and the population had no knowledge of the wider scope of humaniti.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Daphnis does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
Daphnis Highport[edit]
Daphnis Highport was recently completed by the Solomani Confederation. It was constructed in orbit around the system's second gas giant and represents state-of-the-art in Class A Orbital Port design. It is crewed by Confederation staff and marines, with a sub-staff of Daphnis military as trainees.
Daphnis' Government has requested a hold on moving the Highport from its construction site to orbit above the mainworld until local political tensions can be resolved. Daphnis is currently using a combination of Confederation smallcraft and local orbital craft to reach the Highport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Daphnis has a population of 10,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population almost entirely consists of Daphnian humans, possibly a previously unrecognized Minor Human Race.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Daphnian-Nord, Daphnian-Sud, and High Daphnian, the principal local languages.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Daphnis possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
Daphnis has widely available fission power plants in the form of advanced Molten Salt Reactors (MSR), but are still breeding U233 from local Thorium reserves. Until sufficient supply of U233 are acquired, they will continue to burn U235. Daphnis government has requested plans for a series of fusion reactors from Tech-A thru Tech-C, to build industry, technology, and skills to become self-sufficient.
World Government (G)[edit]
Daphnis is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Military[edit]
The Daphnis world government is a newly evolved creature, which inherited the militaries of its predecessors. As such, it has extensive ground forces and atmospheric aircraft, but only a fledgling Space Navy.
World Law (L)[edit]
Daphnis has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 9 (billions)
- Infrastructure: 7 (generally available)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: D (fragmented)
- Acceptance: 9 (friendly)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
