The Daphnians of Daphnis are believed to be a previously uncatalogued Minor Human Race.
- They inhabit a single world within Carcosa Subsector of Aldebaran Sector, within the Solomani Confederation.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Psyiology[edit]
The average Daphnian does not differ considerably from baseline Humans, except for a slightly greater tolerance for arid conditions. There are prevalent hair, eye, and skin colors by region -- the peoples of the poles display paler coloration than the equatorial peoples.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Daphnians are certainly an ancient culture, but authorities disagree on exactly how ancient they are. The most widely held belief is that Daphnis was first settled sometime during the Rule of Man, giving the world a history spanning over three millennia.
There is some linguistic and genetic evidence to suggest that a small but significant percentage of the population are descended from Vilani Humans of the early Ziru Sirka, though how those Vilani got to Aldebaran Sector, far to rimward of the Ziru Sirka's furthest outpost, remains unclear. It has been proposed that the colonists of the Rule of Man era found the descendants of a lost Vilani ship, and over time their two societies merged together.
However, there is increasing evidence to suggest that the Vilani may have found -- or known of -- a world already populated by Humans, and intermarried and interbred with the locals. Recent archaeological evidence appears to show an indigenous population on the world at least 6 millennia ago. Around the year -4500, the supposed time of the Vilani contact, Daphnis appears to have undergone a cultural and technological revolution, advancing from TL–1 to TL–3 over the course of a single century.
Earlier origins for the supposed pre-Vilani Daphnian Humans has been proposed. Though little archaeological research has been conducted, what evidence there is strongly suggests that a large number of non-native species were introduced to the world around -250,000, including flora, fauna, and marine organisms. It is possible that Humans from Terra were transplanted at the same time: if this is indeed the case, the Daphnians would be a Minor Human Race placed on the world -- for reasons unknown -- by the Ancients.
Until any of these theories are conclusively proven, the origins of the Daphnians will remain unclear.
Interstellar Contact[edit]
Until very recently, the majority of Daphnis' population had no knowledge of the wider scope of Humaniti. In this respect, the world was a fairly close parallel to the social conditions on Terra immediately before the Terran discovery of the Jump Drive in -2422.
Society[edit]
The long struggle for survival in inhospitable environments, as well as their homeworld's lack of easily exploitable resources, has historically limited the development of the Daphnian technological base.

Daphnian First Contact[edit]
Daphnis, the Daphnian homeworld, has been an interdicted Red Zone for centuries. The Solomani Confederation initiated formal first contact following the end of the Solomani Rim War.
