Carcosa is a poor, moderate population pre-industrial hellworld, with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • This world would like to become a major industrial powerhouse in the subsector, but lacks the population and resources to build an adequate workforce and industrial business sector.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Carcosa Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

System Data[edit]

2 Gas Giants — 2 Planetoid Belts — 9 Other Worlds

Mainworld Data[edit]

Carcosa is a large-standard world with a thin atmosphere tainted with radon gas.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Carcosa has large polar ice caps, which represent the bulk of the planetary water. While the planet is geologically active, the surface is a mixture of high, isolated mountain ranges and craters.

It rarely gets completely dark on Carcosa, as the star Beta Tauri is almost always visible.

World Starport[edit]

Carcosa has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Carcosa negotiated with the Solomani Confederation for 2 separate downports, Cardown and Cosadown. They support traffic in the Northern and Southern icepack regions, respectively.

World Technology Level[edit]

Carcosa possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Carcosa has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law Level[edit]

Carcosa has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

Each nation maintains ground forces including rocket-assisted jet airforces

World Economy[edit]

Carcosa has a fully-developed world economy. While restricted in water resources, it nonetheless has built a civilization that is advancing steadily. After contact and the provision on a standard C-Class downport, progress has rapidly increased. Carcosa has already met the requirements for Tech-9 in many areas, and there is a global cooperative effort to create a starflight-enabled economy.
