Taurea Subsector is subsector M of Aldebaran Sector.
- It marks the rimward frontier of the Solomani Confederation, where the Confederation borders ostensibly neutral space.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Taurea Subsector:
Astrographic Features[edit]
The subsector is a generally unremarkable area lying on the rimward border of the Solomani Confederation.
- It is an average stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the white main sequence primary of the Kleid system.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Taurea Subsector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Rift Regions[edit]
The subsector contains a single rift region:
- The Marraki Rift.
(Charts sourced from Traveller Map)
Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic and commercial concept based on Jump Drive performance.
- Most commercial vessels typically use Jump Drives capable of Jump-3 or less.
- Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
- Rifts represent a considerable obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.
Economic Astrography[edit]
Corporations[edit]
Corporations and organizations active within the subsector include:
- Abaixo, an organisation operating within the Shuanyun system.
- ConTech, a corporation specializing in life sciences, particularly large-scale bio-terraforming projects, medicine, and cloning.
- Lamarck Minerals, a corporation with a relatively small core area of operations in the Solomani Rim, but with growing interests in resource extraction and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Orion Metallurgy Corporation (OMC), engaged in resource exploration, extraction, and processing throughout the Solomani Sphere.
- Panstellar, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Probable Technologies, a scientific research organization involved with academia and heavy industry. It works extensively with the Confederation military.
- Rising Phoenix News Service (RPNS), the premier news and media organization within the Solomani Sphere. It has a strong pro-Confederation bias.
- Solomani Shipping, a major transport and logistics corporation.
- Transstar, a Solomani megacorporation specializing in transport and logistics. It operates across 13 sectors, represented by the 13 stars in its logo.
- ZeeCorp, a corporation with interests in manufacturing active throughout the Solomani Confederation. It is a major producer of robots.
Trade Routes[edit]
A number of important trade routes lie within the region. High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels moving along them, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between their member worlds.
Less profitable higher jump rating merchant vessels conduct trade and commerce among the region's outlying worlds.
Malorn Cluster[edit]
The Malorn Cluster is a cluster lying across the border between Aldebaran Sector and Malorn Sector.
- It has 14 member systems.
- Its coreward terminus falls within Taurea.
- It is named for Malorn Subsector.
Elias Group[edit]
The Elias Group is a cluster lying against the rimward border between Aldebaran Sector and Canopus Sector.
- It has seven member systems.
- It is named for Elias Six, a low population world with a cold climate.
Shuanyunu Cluster[edit]
The Shuanyunu Cluster is a small cluster lying in the spinward-coreward-trailing-rimward quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.
- It has five member systems.
- It is named for Shuanyun, a technologically advanced world with fluid seas.
World Listing[edit]
Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds that lie within Taurea Subsector is available.
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
During the Rule of Man the subsector was associated with the Terran Mercantile Community, a large paramilitary corporation that became the foundation for the Old Earth Union during the Long Night.
The Solomani Confederation claims the coreward rim of the subsector, including the namesake world Taurea, the homeworld of the Taureans, a native sophont species who can be found in small numbers alongside Humans on many worlds in the region. The majority of the subsector is unclaimed by the cautious Confederation government, but many Confederation leaders have encouraged private citizens and interest groups to flood the frontier even in the absence of official support, to create a zone of systems supportive of the Solomani Cause.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on the region, for the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of snippets of information to their controllers. Some gain a reward or benefit, others are coerced, but most do it out of loyalty to the state.
- Sophisticated technological devices are used by SolSec agents to gather more precise intel.
Polity Listing[edit]
The following polities can be found within this subsector:
- Solomani Confederation (Solomani powers)
- Independent Powers (Pocket Empires)
- Non-Aligned Powers (World-States)
- Non-Aligned, Human Dominated (NaHu)
- Non-Aligned, Unclaimed (NaXX)
Security & Defense[edit]
Despite their supposed neutrality, the worlds of the region are patrolled by the Solomani Navy. It flies the flag, protects Confederation interests, suppresses piracy, and ensures interstellar trade and commerce.
- Confederation vessels may demand customs inspections.
- Some systems are defended by local naval forces.
Native Sophonts[edit]
The following Native Intelligent Lifeforms (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this subsector.
- Taureans of Taurea (Minor Race): Tiny, furry mammalianoids with a strongly developed sensitivity to electrical and magnetic fields.
Demographics[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Humaniti (Human races)
- Solomani (Major Race): Widely spread across the region.
- Non-Human Races
- Malorn Aslan (Major Race): Occasionally encountered within the Malorn Union.
- Taureans of Taurea (Minor Race): Widely spread across the region. They are the majority population in the subsector by a ratio of almost 2:1.
- Valkyrie (Minor Race): There are thought to be major infestations of this parasitic species on the worlds of the Malorn Union.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Solomani Confederation.
- Malorn Trokh, a dialect of Trokh spoken by Aslan dwelling in the Malorn Union.
- Taurean, the principal language of the Taureans.
