Morrigan is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.

  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Morrigan has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a red main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Morrigan is tidally locked to its primary star.

  • The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
  • The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

The mainworld orbits towards the outer edge of its star's habitable zone.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Morrigan is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Morrigan has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Morrigan has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • On the bright face, the world's oceans are littered with icebergs and pack ice.
  • On the dark face, the oceans and continents are covered by frost and thick ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Frost, pack ice, and icebergs completely cover the dark face and vast peninsulas of ice extend far beyond the twilight zone, into the bright face, covering approximately 70% of the surface of the world.

  • In many areas the region of ice ends relatively abruptly, with gigantic ice cliffs towering over the landscape.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Morrigan is inhabited by a group of isolationist Solomani mystics who have adopted the world as their spiritual center. Though armed they are for the most part peaceful, preferring to simply be left alone.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Morrigan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The standard quality downport is located 3 km from the edge of the ice shelf and its ensconced urban center.

World Population (P)[edit]

Morrigan has a population of 6,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
  • The population almost entirely consists of humans of Solomani descent.

Urbanization[edit]

The main urban center, Astarte, has been carved into a stable region of ice cliffs on the warmer bright face of the world.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Morrigan possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Morrigan is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law (L)[edit]

Morrigan has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
