The policy was to dominate the trade, limit raiding to [[Vargr] on [[Vargr]] raids in the subsector and keep the industry in the [[Khouth Subsector]]. This was much resented, but with no heavy industry or effective common leadership, had to be lived with. The presence of so many riches in [[Corridor]], and the population explosion in the extents during the [[0s]] eventually saw [[Aegaek Subsector|this subsector]] overrun by adventurers that forced [[Khouth (world)|Khouth]] out, allowed the [[Ksekgizoksdhaerzluenoe]] to form in [[Million Subsector]] and ultimately started the [[Vargr Campaigns]].

Various powers and interests within the region deliberately sought to dominate trade, limiting Corsair raiding within the area, quietly supporting local navies, and also maintaining a strong industrial base, though harsh practises and hard conditions were normal. Aegaek Subsector fell under Khouth's influence, with few Vargr settling there and its worlds remaining backward or barren. The powers within Khouth are rumored to have razed settlemets, if they were discovered in the area, and sanctioned massacres.

The population explosion in the extents during the later Long Night and first century saw waves of new arrivals in Aegaek subsector, many heavily armed and looking to carve their names among the stars. Khouth, long in decline and preoccupied with other issues, could do little.
