Linguistic Topography: 1116[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly encountered in this astrographic region:

Languages of Humaniti:
  • Transform (Anglic): A principal dialect of one of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds; in this region, mostly variant dialects.
  • Various other, local languages may be heard on Lorean worlds, but have no government support.
  • Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds; in this region, mostly variant dialects.
Languages of Vargr:
  • Irilitok: The language family of the most populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture within the Julian Protectorate.
  • Evrgoer: The most common Suedzuk dialect within modern Lorean space.
Interlingua:
  • Raxkiir: A language developed by clients of the K'kree, a heavily derived variant of !kee suitable for humanoid use. It is commonly used by those trading with K'kree interests, as well as client races acting on behalf of the Two Thousand Worlds.
Languages of Major & Pervasive non-Human Races:
  • Hhraki: Also known as Hhkarn; the primary language of the Hhkar. Hhkar travel frequently and may be found wandering much of Julian and adjacent space.

Native Sophonts: 1116[edit]

The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this area:

  • Terragens (Non-Human Terran Races)
    • None

Demographics: 1116[edit]

Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:

  • Humaniti (Human Races)
    • Solomani
    • Vilani
      • The dominant ethnicity is Arzula, a blend of Vilani and Solomani with a distinct cultural heritage.
      • Damlaerite Humans are another ethnicity increasingly established here.
      • Humans with some Yilean and Kedepu heritage are also found among the Solomani-Vilani population.
  • Non-Human Races
    • Bwap: Small communities scattered across the sector
    • Girug'kagh: Small communities scattered across the trailing part of the sector, along with those on official business for the K'kree Outpost in Gn'hk'r Sector.
    • Hhkar: Part of the Hhkar Sphere is located in spinward Arzul; small communities and wanderers are found elsewhere throughout the sector.
    • Hlanssai: Small, often semi-nomadic communities scattered across the sector
  • Terragens (Non-Human Terran Races)
    • Vargr (Major Race): Mostly Suedzuk Vargr and Irilitok Vargr.
      • Irilitok, bred originally to be Human-favourable, are noted for their loyalty to their Arzula Human "betters", and are thus trusted to a greater extent than many non-Arzula Humans. By contrast, Suedzuk have to be on their best behaviour. The remaining Suedzuk in the spinward half of the sector are those who were comparatively non-aggressive; the others were historically destroyed by the Arzula with Yilean assistance.

Religions[edit]

The state religion of the Hegemony of Lorean is the Unified Cultus of the Deified Man. The central drive of this religion is to prepare all mankind for godhood, led by a Deified Man, created by scientific, materialistic means. This is an extremely martial and disciplined religion; while the Cultus itself is less than five centuries old, it is the descendant of a long chain of similar militaristic, historically anti-Vargr religions. Marching chants and mass drill-like ceremonies dominate public worship.

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this sector:

  • -50,000: For reasons unknown, the Hhkar leave their homeworld using ramscoop-equipped vessels and arrive in Amdukan Sector, to spinward. They colonize Skkyhrk (which will be known to Vargr as Urinir) and other nearby planets.
  • -10,000: Again for unknown reasons, Hhkar migrate away from Skkyhrk.
  • -2235 to -2219: A family of Solomani traders, the Menderes, establish lucrative trade routes along the Mendan Main.
  • -321: Karik Menderes of Menderes Corporation raises all Menderes Vargr to the status of employees.
    • This starts a movement that makes slavery illegal on Asimikigir by -302.
  • -275: Tran Menderes breaks precedent by accepting a Vargr offer to carry Menderes goods off planet. Until now, Kudukara Lines, the principle transport line of the Second Empire of Gashikan, has carried all goods for the region.
  • -222: The Hhkar return to the region in a great migration, attacking the Vargr society present on Urinir.
    • Over the next 500 years, the Hhkar expand their sphere of occupied worlds.
  • (175 to 191): Julian War; the region unites to fight off the Third Imperium as it attempts to incorporate Amdukan, Mendan and Meshan sectors by force.
  • 377: Commodore David Lindquist of the Julian Protectorate Star Legion almost defeats a Hhkar force at Kargar. The Hhkar are so impressed by Lindquist's tenacity and cleverness that he is given an honorable execution, and the Hhkar withdraw from the system in spite of their victory.
  • Early 600s: After centuries of increasingly common peaceful (if wary) interaction, the Hhkar Sphere joins the Julian Protectorate.
  • 814: The Third Imperium and the Arzula authorities forge a trading agreement, leading to the creation of the Deep Space Stations of the Saeghvung-Turley-Exile Run, crossing the Lesser Rift.
  • 822-835: Much of Arzul Sector is conquered by the Arzula.
    • 835-860s: The Blighted War drains the Arzula's nascent Hegemony as it tries to conquer five subsectors.
  • 864: The modern Hegemony of Lorean is founded, starting out as a 'trade and aid' group of interstellar traders centred on a cluster of high-population systems dominating Mycocona Subsector.
    • The great success of this trade coalition leads to a sharp rise of economic and then military power.
  • 869-870: The repressive methods of the Hegemony, and the refusal of local resistance to buckle, leads to the Era of Horror in parts of coreward Empty Quarter Sector, as the Hegemony responds with undue cruelty against its enemies.
  • 933-936: The defection of the Damlaer Union from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony leads to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
  • 940: As part of this political upheaval, the government of the Ikonaz Sphere collapses, replaced by the Rukadukaz Republic.
  • 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.

      • There are an endless number of pro-Hegemony secret societies within the government, which tend to fight each other (in a restrained fashion) when they aren't attacking anti-Hegemonio subversives (with wild abandon, cold efficiency, or unleashed ferocity, depending on the nature of the group).
