The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Castine Subsector:

Astrographic Features

The subsector is a generally unremarkable area lying within the Solomani Confederation.

  • It is an average stellar density region.
  • The brightest star is the orange giant primary of the Glinde system.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes

The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this area:

Stellar Distribution

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Castine Subsector, right:

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rift Regions

The subsector contains a single small rift region:

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic and commercial concept based on Jump Drive performance.

  • Most commercial vessels typically use Jump Drives capable of Jump-3 or less.
  • Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • Rifts represent a considerable obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.

Security & Defense

The worlds of the sector are patrolled by the Solomani Navy. It defends Confederation territory, protects Confederation interests, suppresses piracy, and ensures interstellar trade and commerce.

World Listing

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds that lie within Castine Subsector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.

AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Aslan are uniformly less likely to be cooperative with Solomani interests, but almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, while others can be manipulated or coerced.

Subsector Summary

Castine, subsector C of Canopus, contains 28 worlds with an estimated combined population of 26 billion, a per capita income of Cr7,865, and a total economy of BCr210,281. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr3,504 through 16 starports (5 Class A, 2 Class B, 6 Class C, 3 Class D) employing 544,800 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, two Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, one Rich (Ri) world, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Castine maintain four Naval bases and three Military bases. The average technology level is 7 (with most between 5 and 10). The highest technology level is 14 at Castine (Canopus 2007).

Castine, subsector C of Canopus, contains 33 stars and 303 identified planets; 23 monostellar systems, five binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 24 of the 28 systems (85%) have native gas giants. There are two Asteroid (As) belts, no Desert (De) worlds, two Garden (Ga) worlds, three Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, one Poor (Po) world, six Vacuum (Va) worlds, and two Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Castine has an estimated population of 26 billion distributed across four High population (Hi) worlds, one Moderate population (Ph) world, 11 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, nine Low population (Lo) worlds, and one Barren (Ba) world. The highest population world is Castine (Canopus 2007). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups including one native sophont.

Solomani Confederation

The Solomani Confederation has jurisdiction over 21 worlds in the subsector with an estimated combined population of 24 billion, a per capita income of Cr8,450, and a total economy of BCr203,105. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr3,502 through 11 starports (5 Class A, 2 Class B, 2 Class C, 2 Class D) employing 544,520 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, one Rich (Ri) world, and one Industrial (In) world. The governments in the Solomani Confederation maintain two Naval bases and two Military bases within the subsector. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 5 and 10). The highest technology level is 14 at Castine (Canopus 2007).

The Solomani Confederation has an estimated population of 24 billion within the subsector, distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, seven Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, nine Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Castine (Canopus 2007). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups including one native sophont.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated

There are six Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Castine with an estimated combined population of 2 billion.

Non-Aligned, unclaimed

There is one Non-Aligned unclaimed world in Castine with an estimated population of less than 1 million.
