The Gamopede of Dirigo (Canopus 2403) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a non-humanoid appearance. They are (or were, if they are extinct, see below) technologically developing sophonts.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The name "Gamopede", a Solomani label for the species, can be taken as meaning "linked feet" or "united / joined walker".

Gamopedes Sophont Comparison.jpg

They were classified as non-humanoid swimmers / walkers. More specifically, they were a single-footed arthropodoid analog, massing between 100 and 150 kg, with a body length of approximately 2 meters, and while primarily adapted to spending extended periods in water, they were also capable of moving on land. The flat base of the rear part of the body had two long parallel rows of stubby "toes" that moved in a wave motion, allowing them to walk with surprising speed. An outer protective "skirt" hid these "toes" from view, so that a Gamopede appeared to glide across the ground.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Gamopedes were a primitive, peaceful minor race native to Dirigo in Canopus Sector that are believed to be extinct. They had been classified by the Solomani Confederation as "primitive indigenous" aliens. Around a century ago the Solomani attempted to introduce a technologically advanced culture to their world and assimilate them into Solomani society: they failed to adapt to a high-technology lifestyle and stopped reproducing altogether, a catastrophic development for a species with low population levels.

There are persistent rumors that isolated communities survive in the deep wildernesses of their world, but they are extremely hard to find and actively avoid contact.
