The Last Armada class Personnel Transport is an Auxiliary.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Personnel Transport is a historical design produced in the Terran Confederation during the early 22nd century. These ships fled the Destruction of Terra at the hands of the Vilani Imperium in 2147AD, forming a part of the Last Armada and carrying with them the last remnants of Terran culture and independence. The class were extremely sturdy and reliable and endured more than a century of spaceflight. They ultimately found and settled the Demon Cluster, the Distant Fringe.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage The Personnel Transport is constructed using a 12,000 Ton hull built in a generally Conical configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving fair atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems.
  • There are multiple airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp.
  • The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2. Crew 129 personnel.
  • x11 Command, x14 Engineering, x15 Gunnery, and x36 Service (of which 15 serve as Flight Crew as required). In addition, the vessel carries x50 stewards and x3 medical staff.

  • There are 540 Staterooms.
    • 70 are set aside for the crew. The command crew have individual cabins: all other crew quarters are double occupancy. 400 staterooms are available to passengers.
    • The remaining 70 staterooms are fitted out as leisure facilities, spas and gymnasiums, a medical center, and other similar amenities.
  • There are 300 long-term Low Berths. 65 hold the Frozen Watch and 35 are part of the onboard medical facilities. The remaining 200 are used to transport additional personnel. All of the low berths are tended by the vessel's medical staff.
  • It carries 2,000 GenPods and large embryo banks.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-1 drive, and a Power Plant-2, giving performance of Jump-2 and 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-2s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
    • Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery.
  • The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 computer: the vessel has a backup Model/4 computer.
  • There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel.
  • The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite.
  • It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5. Hardpoints 120 hardpoints.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out for a Personnel Transport is:
7. Defenses The hull is unarmored.
  • 60 triple Sandcaster turrets, typically grouped into six batteries of 10 linked turrets.
  • The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8. Craft Flight Section

The Shuttles are housed in an aft hanger that has a total volume of 234 Tons. The Launches have two (port and starboard) dedicated hangers, each with a volume of 156 Tons: individual sections of each hanger can be sealed. All hangers are accessed by large doors.

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 5,040 Tons.
  • The hull is fitted with fuel scoops.
  • The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.

  • Examples of the class are fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-2.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr6411.932
  • Architects Fee: MCr64.120
11. Construction Time 163 weeks (38 months) as standard.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 239 Tons.
  • The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.

History / Background[edit]

Personnel Transports were constructed in large numbers at Terran-controlled shipyards throughout the Interstellar Wars period. It was an Auxiliary vessel and was one of the more common examples of large ship acquired by the Expedition. This class of ship is historical – no extant examples are known to exist. In addition to carrying passengers, some examples of the class also served as recreational venues (in some sources being referred to as "shore leave ships"). Such vessels were almost entirely given over to entertainment and leisure facilities, providing a vital break from the routine of Armada duties.
