DeVoss Drive
The DeVoss Drive is a jump drive design descended from the jump technology used by the Terrans during the First Confederation.
- It is a type of FTL starship drive.
- It is the type of Jump Drive used within the Distant Fringe to this day.

Description (Specifications)[edit]
DeVoss-type drives are capable of propelling a vessel up to 6.6 light years (2 parsecs) through jumpspace – the so called Jump-2 Barrier – and are extremely reliable. Efforts to increase the design's performance have proven fruitless.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Higher jump-states are known to be possible – Voyagers appear to be capable of a controlled jump-4, and misjumps have carried vessels far further. Research into drives with a higher jump potential (such as the legendary Langstrom Drive) is ongoing, but to date there have been no breakthroughs. The Jumpspace Institute at the IoT/University of Selasia is considered the leading authority on jumpspace physics, jump theory and experimental FTL technology and is spearheading efforts to improve jump performance.
The Mythology of Lon Beon indicates that Lon Beon and the Empire of Thrax, supposedly lying far to spinward of the Distant Fringe, utilize Hop Drives. These fantastical drives have a performance of Hop-2 or better and are able to cover distances of 20 parsecs (or more) in a single week. The myths state that they rely on the Centrum Device in order to operate.
