Datsatl sector is coreward of the trailing edge of the Zhodani Consulate. By many definitions, it lies on the edge of Charted Space.
Meta-History & Background: 2019-0525
Datsatl Sector was vaguely referred to in very early Classic Traveller and MegaTraveller publications.
- It was named with no further data in the 1985 Zhodani (Alien Module).
- A dot map of the sector was provided with the 1990 Alien - Vilani & Vargr
- John G. Wood documented early data about the sector.
- Author and fan Adrian Tymes has further developed the sector.
- In 1985, the Classic Traveller Zhodani (Alien Module) was published.
- In 1990, the MegaTraveller Alien - Vilani & Vargr was published.
- As of 2019 CE, the sector is being further developed by a fan team.
- It has not yet been T5 Second Survey reviewed nor updated to T5 Second Survey standards.
Description (Specifications)
From roughly -4000 to 1104, most sophonts in Charted Space thought this sector was a graveyard of civilizations, based on reports from a lateral offshoot of the First Core Expedition that entered found the dead Ognar Worlds and other more recently depopulated worlds (a result of the Yaskoydri Technocracy's First Doctrinal War). The scouts wrote the whole sector off, gave it a name that roughly translates to "Dead Sector", and left before whatever was leaving so many dead worlds could find them. The major polities of Charted Space were content to leave this far-off sector alone, never knowing that the Zhodani Consulate scouts had barely missed the Yaskoydri Technocracy.
This was just as well, because unknown to said polities, the Empress Wave was herding sophonts from coreward toward Charted Space. Measures had been taken to ensure that almost all of them would arrive at Datsatl Sector, running into and being absorbed or destroyed by the Technocracy. The Technocracy, meanwhile, stayed away, officially honor bound by Grandfather's ancient decree not to seek the origin world of humaniti, but in practice looking inward, gathering ever more of its population on Yaskoyloyt - which, by itself, carries more people than most sectors in Charted Space, not to mention over 95% of Datsatl's population as of 1105.
In 1104, knowledge of this sector began to spread through Charted Space thanks to an IISS scout obtaining and distributing star maps. Shortly thereafter, the Wave Chasers made contact with the Zhodani Consulate, resulting in zhodani traders travelling along the chain and ultimately to Yaskoyloyt starting in 1111.
Toponyms: 1105
This region of space has been known by different names to different groups over its existence including the following:
Datsatl Sector Names | ||
---|---|---|
Culture | Toponym | Polity |
Third Imperium | Datsatl | Third Imperium |
Aslan | Datsatl | Aslan Hierate |
Droyne | Datsatl | Droyne Oytrip Yatroy |
Hiver | Datsatl | Hive Federation |
K'kree | Unknown | Two Thousand Worlds |
Solomani | Datsatl | Solomani Confederation |
Vargr | Datsatl | Vargr Extents |
Vilani | Datsatl | Third Imperium |
Zhodani | Datsatl | Zhodani Consulate |
The Yaskoydri Technocracy (the only polity in Datsatl at the time) did not recognize sectors as Charted Space knows them until initial contact with the Solomani Preserve in -1682. The subsectors were not formally named until 1063, at the suggestion of a delegate from the Preserve, and even then are mostly for Preserve-compatible star charts (which charts were smuggled back to the Third Imperium in 1104). Local star charts use different referents, and need translation for use with astrogation software common to the rest of Charted Space.
Zhodani-compatible (and thus Imperial-compatible) star charts begin to see more use after the Wave Chasers contact the remnants of the Zhodani Consulate, and zhodani traders (with their star charts) begin visiting the Yaskoydri Technocracy in 1111. Ironically, these star charts largely carried data from the 1063 naming conference, leaked through the Third Imperium, with at least one documented instance of transfer happening as part of the Fifth Frontier War immediately prior to 1111.
Linguistic Topography: 1105
The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:
- Anglic (since introduction by the Solomani Preserve in 1)
- Oynprith (spoken by the droyne of Oytriloyt and the Yaskoydri Technocracy since prior to -6000)
Yaskoyloyt also hosts records (and, in a few cases, speakers of) dozens of languages brought by immigrants from coreward. Zdetl was first introduced by Zhodani traders traveling to Yaskoyloyt in 1111, but remained uncommon even there, largely meeting the same fate at first. Unlike the other languages, though, Zdetl has a base of speakers elsewhere who would continue to bring their language. It remains to be seen if this will eventually yield any significant base.

Trade Routes (Economic Astrography)
The general lack of long mains in this sector means that jump-2 is the commonly accepted standard minimum commercial capability. While jump-1 ships are constructed, they are generally for local use only (or routinely fitted with drop tanks to cross a two parsec gap).
The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this area:
Mains, Branches & Arms
- The only significant main within this sector is contained within Aykrusk Subsector. It has been left to the droyne of Oytriloyt, who did not significantly develop it until the Wave Chasers project.
- Micro mains have provided a skeleton on which colonization has happened, over time. As of 1105 this is particularly evident in the Yaskoydri Technocracy and the Tijian Expanse. Praytsirv Subsector's micro mains were previously used the same way, though the subsector is mostly uninhabited in 1105.
Rifts, Voids & Jump Bridges
- Pirian Domain Fuel Factories
- Void Border Subsector and Hollows Subsector are named for their internal voids.
