Kwan is a low-population garden world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
- Both the population and economy of this world are expected to grow in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Theta Aurigae Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- Two orbit the primary star, three orbit the secondary star.
- x1 planetoid belt, orbiting the primary star.
- x1 gas giant, orbiting the primary star.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Kwan is a pristine garden world orbiting in the center of the primary star's habitable zone.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Kwan is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Kwan has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Kwan has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites[edit]
Kwan retains a single small moon.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Kwan has a wide variety of both local flora and fauna. The seas have a variety of life, including edible species for most sophonts.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Kwan was claimed and named by Captain Jon Smið (sic) of the colony vessel Waiferar (massing over 4000 dTons and rated at Jump-4).
As was his wont, Captain Smið insisted on naming the planet but held off on the decision, saying he would do it when he arrived with colonists. Unfortunately, the Captain was highly inebriated when he filed his survey data at his base: he only recorded accurate data for the barren, inhospitable worlds orbiting the system's red secondary star, instead providing faulty data that listed all of the primary star's planets as arid vacuum worlds. This was then logged as the official UWP data for the system. Thinking no more of it, Smið spent years creating a colony mission but only recruited around 1000 individuals. This was largely due to the official data conflicting with reports from other captains regarding the nature of the mainworld.
The final leg of the journey was from Victori, and Captain Smið decided to follow the example of his friend, Capitain Antoine de Bougainville of the Colony ship Voyageur (from the world of Ivraie), and held a celebratory party – becoming quite drunk – before entering the final astrogation jump values. The jump was a miracle; the Waiferar arrived exactly at the target planet – to be clear, the ship dropped out of jump space at the edge of the atmospheric blanket, at speed.
Between the (now quite sober) captain's quick reflexes and the automated systems, the ship managed to pull up from a dive in a 10 G turn. The ship then skipped across the waves and ramped off a beach into the coastal forest beyond, coming to rest between 2 hills with its nose on a third. The turn and ocean impact event itself probably killed over a hundred, and many were injured by the final impact on land, including the Captain.
Norbert Kwan, the ship's first mate, found the Captain at the forward area of the bridge, where he had been thrown. The Captain was grievously injured, but the mate, himself stunned, asked "What do you name the planet, Captain?"
The Captain looked up, said, "Kwan?"... and died. And so the Captain named his last system.
The Scout Service discovered the survivors a few years later, on a routine follow up on the registered colonization mission. The population declared that they would be happy to join the Solomani Confederation if they were provided with a modern Class A starport for their pristine garden world. And so, a deal was struck.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Kwan has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
The Downport is dubbed Norbertport, after the surviving first mate of the colony ship.
The port also contains a large, popular bar which profanely dubbed F... the Captain. It is occasionally referred to as Captain F... (only they don't say F.)
World Population (P)[edit]
Kwan has population of 600 sophonts (hundreds).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Quesadan Spanish, a Terran language principally spoken in the Grand United States of Quesada.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Kwan possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Kwan is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
World Law (L)[edit]
Kwan has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
