Columbier is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a part of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation, located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
- It is a member of the Euxene Cluster.
- It is home to a small community of Kwaz.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Columbier orbits towards the outer edge of the primary star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Columbier is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Columbier has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Columbier has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- The world's seas are often crusted with pack ice.
Satellites[edit]
Columbier retains a single vacuum moon named Luna.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in low temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Columbier is a member of the Euxene Cluster, a small but important cluster and a major trade center lying in the spinward-coreward quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.
It lies just outside the Aldebaran high-technology triangle (Darsei-Euxene-Home), and has benefited from that propinquity.
During the Rim War the Confederation attempted to "relocate" a number of non-human races to other worlds, principally to fill gaps in the labor market caused by humans serving in the military. Large numbers of Kwaz were shipped to the world to assist with agricultural tasks. Their services are in demand, they have integrated relatively well, and generally they are thriving.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Columbier has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- This world is host to a Republic Naval Base.
- This world is host to a major Military Base.
The operation and maintenance of the Columbier Highport is handled by the Republic Navy. They also collect half the profits.
Each Columbien nation maintains its own surface downport, competing with other states to offer better facilities or services.
World Population (P)[edit]
Columbier has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- About 95% of the population (roughly 95,000 individuals) is made up of Solomani humans.
- Around 5% of the population (approximately 5,000 individuals) consists of Kwaz.
Urbanization[edit]
The Kwaz present on the world live in their own communities, generally built close to human settlements. Structures are constructed to serve their physiological needs and are generally far too small for humans to comfortably enter.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.
- Native Kwaz languages.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Columbier possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government (G)[edit]
Columbier has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
The nations of the world Columbier are:
- Marseilles: an Impersonal Bureaucracy that enforces a local Law Level of 5.
- Padua: controlled by a Charismatic Dictatorship.
- America: it is a balkanized nation made up of many minor states under a Confederation agreement.
- Florida: under the sway of a Charismatic Dictatorship.
- Antigua: an Impersonal Bureaucracy.
Each nation lies close to one of the large surface seas.
World Law (L)[edit]
Columbier has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 3 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 4 (very limited)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
The culture of Columbier mirrors the culture of Euxene in most respects.
- Heterogenity: 7 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 8 (friendly)
- Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
- Symbols: B (abstract)
