Reunion is a nonindustrial, pre-rich world still lacking adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a part of the Third Reformed French Confederate Republic, a member state of the Solomani Confederation, located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Reunion has a solitary primary star.
- It is an orange main sequence.
It is a sister star to the primary of the Myrthe system. Despite their slight differences in mass and luminosity, the two have almost identical chemical properties.
- The star has an approximate age of 4.2 billion years.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Reunion is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Reunion has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- The atmosphere is a dense nitrogen-oxygen mix containing above average levels of helium. Within highland regions the pressure is equivalent to a standard atmosphere.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Reunion has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
The world has several volcanic mountain ranges, with the highest peaks extending to as high as 15,000 meters. There are five large seas connected by lakes, mostly near the equator.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
There are extremely large varieties of plant life and corresponding types of megafauna, which are still being categorized by local scientists.
- New species of creatures are being discovered almost on a weekly basis.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Reunion was colonized by a small group of wealthy industrialists in 905. Those families, originating on Euxene and almost all with high-level connections to the military-industrial complex, retain ownership and control of most of the world to this day.
Reunion is different enough from Euxene that it can market itself as a luxury getaway where the adventurous can "rough it" a bit. Given its tiny population relative to Euxene, it can also call itself "reclusive". The families that control the world also maintain exclusive Jump-4 transit rights from Nereus and Columbier, and Jump-5 transit rights between Euxene and Reunion. The Euxene-based vessel Reunion Supreme II is the premier high jump ship operating on the route.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Reunion has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- This world is host to a Republic Naval Base.
- This world is host to a major Military Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Reunion has a population of 400,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
The principal city is Paradis, a mountain community sitting atop a huge plateau. The design mirrors Euxene construction and architecture. Below it is the optimistically named Reunion Urbanization Zone, a designated region sweeping down from mountainous Paradis, across the broad lowlands, to the shores of the lakes and seas: much of it is unspoiled wilderness, with little sign of any kind of urbanization. A smaller community, Nouvelle-sur-Vert, has been constructed near the closest sea and serves as an idyllic vacation spot.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Reunion possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Reunion is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
The governing authority is the Reunion Board.
World Military[edit]
The Reunion Board maintains a small ground army and police force with access to the latest military and policing technologies.
The Republic maintains both a naval base and a major military base within the system to balance the military presence of the Confederation fleet at Monterey.
- Local forces have an excellent rapport with the Republic military bases and their personnel, who take shore leave here regularly.
World Law (L)[edit]
Reunion has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Within Paradis, the law level excludes projectile weapons from the civilian ownership.
