Phecta is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Phecta has a solitary primary star.
- It is a blue-white main sequence named Phecda, Phad, or γ Ursae Majoris / Gamma Ursae Majoris.
Phecta has a solitary primary star. γ Ursae Majoris

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Phecta is tidally locked to its primary star.[2]
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits within the inner system, but lies beyond the star's large Jump Shadow.
- It receives very high levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Phecta is a Small World between 900km and 2,400km in diameter. The world has very low gravity between 0.05G and 0.09G. The horizon will appear about 2km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Phecta has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- Vacuum worlds have no climate, but experience extreme differences in temperature between direct starlight and shade.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Phecta has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Phecta has a culture driven by economics and capitalism. Each mining town on the world is owned by a powerful individual or is administered by a mining corporation: these interests are in constant (and sometimes violent) competition. There is permanently a need for additional skilled labor, and because of the shortage of manpower security forces are ordered to avoid casualties when dealing with trouble. Labor unions have considerable sway, though they also compete and feud amongst each other. Individuals compete for jobs, training, and positions, and a potential promotion can sometimes lead to lethal violence between candidates. Salaries vary widely within a given position, though a successful (and lucky) individual is sometimes able to earn enough credits to retire after just a few years.
There is a great deal of social pressure to be physically fit: the ill, weak, and needy are distained. Most adults are armed, and weapons are routinely carried within the workplace, though firearms are restricted around sensitive equipment such as power plants. Due to the ongoing safety issues, unions and mining interests are continually striving to reduce weapons within the workplace.
| Quote: Hell, only without the atmosphere. Phecta citizen, no name given. |
The system's active star, γ Ursae Majoris, causes interference, strange tones and noises, and heavy static on commo and sensors.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Phecta has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Phecta has a population of 30,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
The startown is the only sizeable urban center. There are several large mining camps located along the twilight zone, connected to the starport by a heavy rail-link. The train has several pressurized and shielded areas for travellers, with the remainder of the cars being filled with ores or processed metals.
- An extension to the transport network, named Rail-Link B, is being constructed into the dark face of the world to connect isolated but productive mining communities.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Phecta possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
Outsized power centers have been constructed near the startown and the major mining and ore processing centers.
World Government (G)[edit]
Phecta is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
World Law (L)[edit]
Phecta has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Two areas are considered sacrosanct: the transportation net and the power grid. It is a capital offense to deliberately cause damage to either.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
The economy is almost entirely centered around mining and processing metal ores. Large amounts of food are imported, chiefly from Ivraie.
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 4 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 9 (somewhat abstract)
