Phecta is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Quote: "Hell, only without the atmosphere." -Phecta citizen, no name given.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

A small tidally-locked vacuum rock.

The startown is the only sizeable urban center. There are several mining camps located along the twilight zone connected by a heavy raillink. The train has several pressurized and shielded areas for travellers, with the remainder of the cars being filled with ores or smelted metal bars.

A "Raillink B" is being constructed as a loop into the cold-side of the world.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World Starport[edit]

Phecta has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level[edit]

Phecta possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Phecta is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law Level[edit]

Phecta has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

No information yet available.

World Economy[edit]

The economy is almost entirely centered around mining metal ores and processing them.

Outsized power plant centers have been constructed near the startown, mining centers, and ore processing centers. Relatively advanced nuclear technologies are being used to produce materials not naturally occurring on Phecta. These technologies are slowly improving the economy and living-standards.

Trade Data[edit]

Metal exports.

Food imports, largely from Ivraie.

World Demographics[edit]

No information yet available.

World Culture[edit]

The culture is driven by its economics, which is unregulated capitalism. Each mining town is either owned by a single person, or is part of a small group of mining corporations. These groups are in constant, and sometimes violent, competition. Two areas are considered sacrosanct: the Train and the Power grid.

There is constant competition to recruit skilled labor. This shortage means that the security forces are ordered to avoid casualties, and that the labor unions have considerable sway, though they also compete and feud amongst each other. Likewise, individuals will also continually compete for jobs, training, and position.

All adults are motivated to be fit and armed, even going so far as carrying weapons into mining areas (usually only blades there, for safety reasons). Due to safety issues, unions and mining interests are continually negotiating to reduce weapons on worksites.

Salaries vary widely within a given position.

A successful person is sometimes able to earn enough credits to retire offworld after 10 years.

Urbanization[edit]

Phectus is the planetary startown located at the north pole on the twilight boundary.
