Oppenheimer Subsector is subsector O of Neworld Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Oppenheimer Subsector:

Astrographic Features[edit]

The subsector is a generally unremarkable area of neutral space.

  • It is a low stellar density region.
  • The marginally brightest star is the white main sequence primary of the 100-224 system.

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Oppenheimer Subsector, right:

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Rift Regions[edit]

Neworld Sector Rifts

The subsector contains a single large rift region, the Oppenheimer Expanse.

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic and commercial concept based on Jump Drive performance.

  • Most commercial vessels typically use Jump Drives capable of Jump-3 or less.
  • Areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rifts.
  • Rifts represent a considerable obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.

Trade Routes[edit]

High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along the clusters and traces of the region, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between their member worlds. Jump-2 and Jump-3 feeder routes work their ways around the rifts and voids that dot the region, linking the various clusters and traces.

Clusters[edit]

The subsector contains a single cluster of worlds: the Petrov Trace.

Petrov Trace[edit]

The Petrov Trace is a largely uncharted region principally lying within the coreward part of Hadji Sector. Though there are known to be populations, little data regarding most of its member worlds is currently available.

Corporations[edit]

Corporations and organizations known to be active within the subsector include:

Goods[edit]

Notable local commodities include:

  • (none currently listed)

Security & Defense[edit]

The worlds of the subsector are generally not patrolled, though both the Solomani Navy and the Dienabach Flotte conduct occasional sweeps through the region. They protect their state's interests, suppress piracy, and ensure interstellar trade and commerce.

World Listing[edit]

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds that lie within Oppenheimer Subsector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.

AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:

Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.

  • Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Oppenheimer Subsector has a strongly Germanic flavor. It has a reputation for hearty food, excellent local alcoholic beverages, grand music created by inspired composers, engineering excellence, punctuality, efficiency, and an overall sense of order. Some regard it as a rather dour, humorless region, though it is just as well known for rambunctious seasonal festivals focused on drinking.

Its coreward region is largely empty rift; stellar density increases to rimward.

The Apostles of Clarke's Law are a noted cultural power within the area.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things within the subsector to ensure the security of the Solomani Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but a few see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Oppenheimer, subsector O of Neworld, contains 12 worlds with an estimated combined population of 6 billion, a per capita income of Cr9,435, and a total economy of BCr57,366. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr230 through 6 starports (2 Class A, 3 Class B, 1 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 28,395 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, one Non-Agricultural (Na) world, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, two Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and one Industrial (In) world. The governments in Oppenheimer maintain three Naval bases and two Military bases. The average technology level is 6 (with most between 1 and 11). The highest technology level is 14 at Oppenheimer (Neworld 2138).

Oppenheimer, subsector O of Neworld, contains 18 stars and 121 identified planets; six monostellar systems, six binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 12 of the 12 systems (100%) have native gas giants. There are one Asteroid (As) belt, one Desert (De) world, no Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, no Poor (Po) worlds, two Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.

Oppenheimer has an estimated population of 6 billion distributed across two High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, one Non-industrial (Ni) world, three Low population (Lo) worlds, and four Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Oppenheimer (Neworld 2138) and Spindrift (Neworld 2437). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are eight Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Oppenheimer with an estimated combined population of 6 billion.

Non-Aligned, unclaimed[edit]

There are four Non-Aligned unclaimed worlds in Oppenheimer with an estimated combined population of less than 1 million.
