Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

On the trailing border of the Ruler of Five and facing the Third Empire of Gashikan is Ksoegusnoeks, with the highest Tech Level rating in Nikhigireki Subsector. Nine billion Urzaeng Vargr reside in domed and covered crater-cities between high, steep mountain ranges. Magrail trains and underground grav tubes move resources, goods and commodities, and citizens between important locations. Ksoegusnoeks' surface port, known as Canyon Downs, is located in one of the deepest valleys on the surface. The Highport, in orbit above the world, revolves in the opposite direction to the world's spin.

The stellar primary is a dim red main sequence star that occasionally displays bouts of intense flare activity. The transparent domes that cover the surface settlements serve as protective covers, becoming opaque at peak flare brightness and blocking other harmful wavelengths of energy. Large gravity generators, located centrally within each habitation, compensate for the low local gravity.

The majority of the world's population are content to work within the vast industrial concerns. Families are allowed a maximum number of cubs: those who fail to abide by this law, either deliberately or by accident, are sent to live and work on the low-tech colony world of Roulnoul. There have been regular protests and some riots against what is seen as banishment for unjust reasons. Violence among protestors has increased the local law level, to the point where long blades such as swords are controlled and permits for concealed weapons require both registration and annual fees. Taxation on ammunition has risen consistently.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has a population of 9,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

The population is mainly composed of Urzaeng Vargr, with an enclave of Ovaghoun, visiting humans, and a few Irilitok.

Urbanization[edit]

The citizens of Ksoegusnoeks live in geodesic domes, sealed and stepped impact craters, one arcology, tunneled subterranean warrens, and natural grottos. The world has extensive public and private infrastructure: aerospace commuting is available for the affluent.

The territorial Urzaeng do not share the gregarious nature of other Vargr. Their communities tend to be quite spread out, with fences and walls marking their boundaries.

  • The Urzaeng have a disdain for weakness. Runts, elderly, and the chronically ill are usually collected into separate communities. Someone with a temporary illness is wise to seclude himself from the public until he recovers.

World Languages[edit]

Urzaeng and Ovaghoung are the main spoken languages: Anglic and Vilani are also heard.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

Three major factions hold power, and each tries to push their agenda.

  • The first is a notable group of administrators who maintain a tight grip on the low-tech colony world of Roulnoul. It is an agricultural colony that feeds and clothes Ksoegusnoeks' burgeoning population - it is vital to the ongoing wellbeing of the world.
  • The second is a social group that attempts to understand Humaniti, pushes for better relations, and seeks to enlighten the locals on Vilani and Julian Protectorate Humans.
  • A third (and significantly more obscure) organization seeks to receive potential psionic Vargr, both "awakened" individuals seeking answers and full Psions desiring their next Stage in psionic training. This faction takes in these seekers and vets them for placement at either the prestigious Lodaeegzzuen Collegia of Psionics on Lodaeegzzuen or the Roulnoul Society of Psions on the colony world of Roulnoul. This Faction takes large "administrative fees" to assist "correct placement" of Psions who qualify for both Institutes.

World Law (L)[edit]

Ksoegusnoeks has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 3 (ordinary)

Ksoegusnoeks is a manufacturing powerhouse, producing a wide range of high quality TL–12 goods. Products manufactured on the world are noted as being particularly aesthetically pleasing. Industrial concerns are in contractual negotiations with nearby Tsaeousorrg for various refined industrial chemicals, lubricants, and fuels.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: C (very abundant)
  • Labor: 8 (hundreds of millions)
  • Infrastructure: 9 (extensive)
  • Efficiency: +2 (good)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 9 (discordant)
  • Acceptance: B (extremely friendly)
  • Strangeness: 2 (typical)
  • Symbols: D (very abstract)

A translator device can assist visitors with interpreting the meanings of local symbols.

Art, color, and culture are highly prized, apparently a reaction to the stark gray mountains and vacuum plains beyond the habitation domes. Inside the environments, architectural design draws the eye and bizarre fashions can be seen.

Secondary Worlds[edit]

One secondary world within the system is habitable.

Turrkekfang[edit]

Alien Moon 45b-0 Large.jpg

Turrkekfang is a secondary world in the Ksoegusnoeks system. It orbits Zhegh, the red secondary star, at 0.12 AU, lying within the star's habitable zone. Turrkekfang was originally the mainworld of the system and saw extensive settlement during the early days of Vargr space exploration.

Turrkekfang has UWP Codes of GA95642-1. It is a tropical, agricultural, non-industrial low technology world that is tidally locked to Zhegh.

Turrkekfang has a thin, dark, narrow ring system, the remnants of a shattered planetoid moon. None of the bodies that make it up are more than a few meters in diameter.

The bright face of the world is covered in warm oceans, while the dark face of the world is covered in relatively arid plains and cold deserts and has a small icecap at the point furthest from the star. Weather systems help moderate the climate, though occasionally violent electrical storms driven by strong winds sweep off of the seas. The twilight zone is swathed in forests and jungles that are noted for the speed of their growth: cleared ground can be completely subsumed in a few hours. The world has abundant native fauna.

Garden World Type 01.jpg

When Turrkekfang was first colonized, early in the period known as the Second Diaspora, the atmosphere was rated as Dense, untainted. An ongoing period of intense geological activity and volcanism released vast amounts of toxic gases, causing the atmosphere to become tainted. This seismic activity is cyclic, occurring over a period of tens of thousands of years: the volcanic activity will eventually subside and the atmosphere will gradually become Dense, untainted again. Local lifeforms are adapted to these periodic atmospheric changes.

The original colonists were unfortunate to settle the world a few centuries before the onset of a new geological cycle. When it began the geological activity caused earthquakes and tremors, destroying structures, the starport facilities, and much of the local infrastructure. Most of the original settlers were evacuated to more hospitable worlds but a few thousand remained, adapting to the adverse conditions. The native population, descended from those who stayed, now number in the millions and live in a TL–1 nomadic tribal society.

It is both traditional and practical that structures must be collapsible and mobile: the entire property of a tribe is moved by large beast-drawn wagons along paths cut from the jungles by locals. The primitive Vargr resident on the world prize filter masks, which enhance their ability to cope with smoke and gases ejected from the many volcanoes.

Turrkekfang is considered to be an agricultural world. It primarily exports foodstuffs, including preserved meats, exotic spices, narcotics, and pharmacological plants.

Corsair Base[edit]

Hidden in the foggy and hot jungles of Turrkekfang is a Corsair Base, consisting of landing pads and prefabricated structures connected by roads. The stealthy Urzaeng pirates pay local tribes to keep the landing pads clear of jungle growth, and must repeatedly carve their way along the jungle roads with either wheeled or tracked vehicles. The native Vargr welcome the "metal skyships" and the shiny treasures they offer in payment. While interplanetary trade has reintroduced the primitive Turrkekfang culture to interstellar society, so far only a few tribes have taken advantage of it, but they are prospering: the Corsairs are watching the economic growth with interest.
