Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Kostov Confederate Republic is a political entity and cultural region lying within the Solomani Confederation. It is a union of a number of culturally Russian worlds.
- It has 8 member systems and covers parts of three subsectors.
- Its name is usually abbreviated to the Republik.
A basic overview of the Republik, right:
Clusters[edit]
The Kostov Cluster forms the heartland of the Republik:
Rifts[edit]
The Republik lies to rimward of the Kostov Void, a rift region that plays a key role in local defensive strategies.
- It is a significant obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.
Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
The government of the Republik is characterized as having a high degree of centralization, which sets uniform policies that direct the entire multi-system state and disregards local/planetary differences. The Republik's government is usually classified as a Democracy, a form of a Unitary State.
Known throughout the Confederation as a fierce protector of democracy, the Konfederativnaya Respublika Kostova requires that each citizen aged 17 or over votes in the annual elections. These elections decide all important aspects of the Republik's government. A vast government bureaucracy sees to it that the results of each election are quickly tabulated and enacted.
A congress is elected each year to tend to foreign interests and insure the continuation of democratic ideals. While it often proves difficult to get an immediate decision on minor matters, special elections are held in the event of great national need. Each world in the Republik handles its democracy in a slightly different way, but the overall effect is nonetheless that of a large, modern participatory democracy.
Goals[edit]
The state's primary goal is preserving trade and economic prosperity for its member worlds.
Interstellar Relations[edit]
The Republik is a semi-autonomous member state of the Solomani Confederation. It follows the laws, decrees, and rulings of that state.
- The Confederation deals with foreign policy and conducts interstellar relations in conjunction with and on behalf of the Republik. Although it largely leaves the region to its own devices in terms of domestic politics, it retains the right to overrule rulings and decisions that the Republik makes. This executive power has not yet been exercised.
Military & Intelligence[edit]
The navy is called the Flot Konfederativnoy Respubliki, usually abbreviated to Flot. It defends the territory of the Republik and the Solomani Confederation, protects the interests of the Republik, suppresses piracy, and ensures interstellar trade and commerce. Its vessels form a key element of the Solomani Navy.
- Flot vessels may demand customs inspections.
- Some systems are defended by local naval forces.
The Army is called the Armiya Konfederativnoy Respubliki.
- Member worlds provide military units, equipment, and personnel.
- It garrisons the member planets.
The state's intelligence service is the Sluzhby Bezopasnosti, the SB.
- Although it is effectively a branch of SolSec, it retains a distinct identity and has a fearsome reputation.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
