Mainworld Data[edit]

Kostov is a small-standard world with a standard atmosphere tainted with high concentrations of Xenon and other high-weight gases. The core of Kostov is active and contains higher than normal concentrations of Uranium and Thorium isotopes which are undergoing classic slow-motion fission processes, yielding a hot core, secondary daughter gases in the atmosphere, and rapid plate tectonic activity. The crust also contains easily accessible metals, radioactives, and phosphorus compounds, making the world a veritable treasury.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Kostov has a twilight-warm ocean which covers 50% of the globe, and defines the cold continent and the warm islands and archipelagoes. Each hemisphere has multiple overlapping mountain ranges of varying heights according to age; at least 2 ranges exhibit vulcanism on each continent at this time. Oceanic volcanoes erupt occasionally as steam detonations (see also: phreatic explosion; ultravulcanian eruption) resulting in tsunamis.

The cold continent is largely frozen water-ice once you pass 300km past the twilight zone. The active volcanoes are very dramatic here, and there are tours available.

Mainworld Map[edit]

Local directions refer to the Coldpole as "North" and the Warmpole as "South".

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Kostov is a relatively young world, but aquatic species have evolved here naturally. These species are still being discovered and categorized by local scientists, but have evolved to be resistant to both temperature changes and sudden pressure changes.

Smithesque: a thin and wide fish analogue that extracts dissolved oxygen from the sea water. Noted for its culinary flexibly, it is prolific and often served in many guises by Kostovian chefs. Personal note: it's a tough "fish", and these chefs really have mastered the slow-and-low methods necessary to make it edible.

World Starport[edit]

Kostov has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Kostov Highport is a well-established and well-maintained class-A construct.

Kostov Milport seems to be equal quality but is off-limits to civilian craft. Military craft are easily observable as there is constant traffic here.

Downports are: North-A, North-B, South-A, South-B; also, Mildown-A located on a dormant oceanic island.

World Technology Level[edit]

Kostov possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World Government[edit]

Kostov is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

Kostov is a fierce proponent of democracy, and requires all citizens aged 17 year or older to vote in all elections.

World Law Level[edit]

Kostov has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

World Economy[edit]

Kostov is a fully-functional world economy that takes full advantage of its natural resources and trade route location. It dominates the surrounding system economies.

Trade Data[edit]

Brisk export trade is metals and metal products. High technology corporations flourish here, developing on an advanced world-net.

World Demographics[edit]

Humanity 100%

An entire uber-pod of dolphin colonists were killed in a random oceanic volcano eruption. No further dolphin colonists have arrived.

World Culture[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Urban areas can be found on both hemispheres and within the twilight zone.

Kostov boasts cities at the T14 level, with advanced materials and construction techniques. Closer inspection reveals the cities are actually over-engineered T13 constructs, but are impressive nonetheless. No expense seems to have been spared to provide safe and easily maintained structures, without sacrificing aesthetics.

Historical Data[edit]

World Timeline[edit]

Kostov was originally designated Plamen or Plamen 1, after its original explorer, lead scout Jamison Plamen (Solomani Scout Service).
