Theton Subsector is Subsector D of Vland Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)

Theton Subsector is a long-settled region, divided between the Imperial Domain of Vland, neutral Human worlds, and areas dominated by the Vargr. Originally settled by the Ziru Sirka and then controlled by the Rule of Man, it was partially conquered by the Vargr prior to the Long Night and has remained as a frontier since that time.

  • It has been developed and exploited for millennia.

Astrographic Features[edit]

The following astrographic features and trade routes can be found within this subsector:

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Theton Subsector, right:

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Trade Routes (Economic Astrography)[edit]

Vilani Main. (Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
Nudashiir Lagani. (Chart sourced from Traveller Map).

Two major trade route lie within the region:

The Vilani Main[edit]

The Vilani Main, the mighty trade artery of the Ziru Sirka, extends into the rimward half of the subsector.

  • High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move along the Main, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
  • The subsector lies at the extreme coreward end of the Main.
  • Worlds on the Main are highlighted in green.
  • Vland is marked in red.

The Nudashiir Lagani[edit]

A few worlds within coreward-trailing corner of the subsector lie on the Nudashiir Lagani, the great Lishun-Gashikan Main.

  • An eclectic mix of vessels, both Human and Vargr, work their ways along the Main, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
  • The subsector lies on the far spinward end of the main.

Subsector Summary[edit]

Theton, subsector D of Vland, contains 28 worlds with an estimated combined population of 97 billion, a per capita income of Cr4,894, and a total economy of BCr479,483. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr31 through 23 starports (1 Class A, 8 Class B, 5 Class C, 9 Class D) employing 5,575 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, four Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, three Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, one Rich (Ri) world, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Theton maintain five Scout bases, four Corsair bases, and three Naval bases. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 7 and 11). The highest technology level is 14 at Mukata (Vland 3006).

Theton, subsector D of Vland, contains 38 stars and 301 identified planets; 18 monostellar systems, ten binary systems, no trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 21 of the 28 systems (75%) have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, two Desert (De) worlds, one Garden (Ga) world, two Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, four Poor (Po) worlds, three Vacuum (Va) worlds, and one Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) world.

Theton has an estimated population of 97 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, three Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 13 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Spinport (Vland 2808). The population consists primarily of 3 sophont groups including one native sophont.

3 identified sophont populations in Theton

Third Imperium, Domain of Vland[edit]

The Third Imperium, Domain of Vland has jurisdiction over 17 worlds in the subsector with an estimated combined population of 89 billion, a per capita income of Cr5,269, and a total economy of BCr469,018. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr23 through 13 starports (0 Class A, 4 Class B, 2 Class C, 7 Class D) employing 4,095 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, two Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Third Imperium, Domain of Vland maintain five Scout bases, and two Naval bases within the subsector. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 7 and 11). The highest technology level is 14 at Mukata (Vland 3006).

The Third Imperium, Domain of Vland has an estimated population of 89 billion distributed across two High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, nine Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, six Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Spinport (Vland 2808). The population consists primarily of 2 sophont groups including one native sophont.

Non-Aligned, Vargr-dominated[edit]

There are seven Non-Aligned Vargr-dominated worlds in Theton with an estimated combined population of 8 billion.

Client state, Third Imperium[edit]

The Client states of the Third Imperium in Theton encompass two worlds with an estimated combined population of 200 million.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are two Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Theton with an estimated combined population of less than 1 million.

World Listings[edit]

Comprehensive Second Survey UWP data for all worlds lying within the subsector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may contain contradictory or incorrect information.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The entire subsector was a Human-dominated area under the Ziru Sirka, with settlements dotted across the region. Vargr began moving to rimward during the Rule of Man but by the time they reached Vland Sector their numbers were widely dispersed among the many worlds they had overrun. As groups moved deeper into the Human heartlands they met increasingly capable resistance and a de facto Human-Vargr border region was established, running through the coreward part of the subsector. As the slow collapse of the Long Night began, raids and attacks into each faction's territory were common. These only served to destroy the infrastructure of the region and increase the economic and commercial decay.

The whole region (particularly those worlds that had been occupied and pillaged by the Vargr) regressed during the Long Night and many became barren. Towards the end of the era, Sylean Federation jump technology became increasingly available to both the Humans and Vargr within the area, and worlds began to be recontacted, claimed, and settled by both races. By the time the young Imperium formally annexed the subsector, the Vargr within the region were capable, surprisingly well organized, and well-enough equipped to halt further easy Imperial expansion. The coreward edge of the subsector became the border of the Imperium.

The Theton Subsector is defended by 251st Fleet.
