Massina is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Sephi Hydra Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- This world directly controls Calchas and has an agricultural colony at Clavius.
Stellar Data[edit]
Massina has a solitary primary star.
- It is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Massina is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Massina has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- The atmosphere has a high carbon dioxide taint.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Massina has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- The bulk of Massinan water is located in the polar seas.
- In other areas water collects in lakes in and near the mountain valleys, which more or less evenly over the surface.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Massina is extremely geologically active, and has a ionic-metallic core that spins 2.1x the rate of rotation. As such, this world is crisscrossed by numerous medium-height mountain ranges, has numerous volcanic hotspots, and is prone to various classes of groundquakes.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native plant life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Massina is home to a lush reserve of plant life. Plants here grow quickly and larger than offworlders usually suspect.
- No local fauna larger than small insectoids have developed. All larger animal species here have been transplanted from other worlds.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Massina is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
Massina is a comfortable place to live with many opportunities to succeed according to one's abilities. Rather than create a lax culture, the leadership has carefully crafted a high energy, competitive culture where the inventive and hard-working swiftly rise, and those who sit on their laurels swiftly decline. There is a floor to this society which is still comfortable, but there is no limit to achievement.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Massina has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Massina has a population of 3,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
Massina has many TL–13 urban centers both in mountainous and lakeshore settings. They are notable as being clean and extremely automated. Many companies choose to meet physically to do work, while others work from their homes and interact via advanced AR/VR. Somewhat whimsically, one company has its employees meet via AR/VR from their individual lake watercraft.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Massina possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government (G)[edit]
Massina is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.
World Military[edit]
Massina maintains its own Star Navy, Marines, and Army ground troops, and produces its own armaments, material, and combat vehicles.
Per the Massina world net, the acknowledged forces include:
- x4 battleship class warcraft, mounting missiles and spinal mount weaponry.
- x6 destroyer class warcraft
- x4 squadrons of SDBs.
- x1 battlerider, with carrier fighters.
They maintain these craft as:
- a mobile fleet, visiting other worlds in the area, and
- a home fleet.
World Law (L)[edit]
Massina has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 4 (important)
World Economy[edit]
Massina's technological might allows it to dominate the economies of surrounding systems.
Its chief products include advanced electronics, media productions, power plants, starship systems.
- Resources: 4 (scarce)
- Labor: 8 (hundreds of millions)
- Infrastructure: C (very extensive)
- Efficiency: +2 (good)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 7 (discordant)
- Acceptance: D (very xenophilic)
- Strangeness: 6 (very distinct)
- Symbols: E (extremely abstract)
