Astrography & Planetology[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Collace is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence named Gorie.
- The secondary is a red main sequence named Sonor.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Collace is a world of water, with huge oceans that cover a full four-fifths of its surface. The atmosphere is very thin, providing little protection against the glaring sunlight of the system’s primary star, and is also badly tainted. Accordingly, those who wish to move around in the open must use filter respirator combination and wear thorough protection against sunburn.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Collace is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Collace has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Collace has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Collace was the site of a Sindalian Empire mining colony that was cut off by the fall of the empire. The population was in serious decline when it was found by Darrian scouts in -1310. The Darrians provided enough technological advice to let Collace develop a stable, self-sustainable infrastructure that would keep them alive.
It is part of the Kaharoht Run, a Mewey trade route that forms part of the Collace Arm of the Spinward Main.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Collace has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Scout Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Collace has a population of 1,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- Some suspect that there was a population on this world by the 400's, who were descendants of marooned Sindalian Empire miners.
Collace's population now stands at approximately a billion. Population pressure could well have become a problem, given the planet's large population and relative lack of dry land on which to build. However, this problem was solved by housing most of Collace’s inhabitants in arcologies, often built in clusters. A baneful consequence of “clustering” is that the middle- and upper-classes have tended to gravitate into newer, more expensive, high-security arcologies, leaving the older and less expensive structures to the working class and poor. Many of the lower-class arcologies have become increasingly run-down and experience high levels of criminal activity, much of it ‘run’ by organized criminal gangs.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Collace possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government (G)[edit]
Collace is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Military[edit]
Collace has sought to join the Imperium and hosts the largest Imperial scout base in District 268. Indeed, the term “scout base” does not accurately convey the vast scale of the IISS presence, which includes facilities (training sites, supply depots, early warning stations, etc.) on half a dozen other planets and satellites in the system in addition to the main base on Kirkton -- Collace’s principal moon. The intimate relationship between the Imperial and local military is demonstrated by the fact that elements of Collace’s armed forces provide ground and close orbit defense for both themselves and the IISS facilities.
World Law (L)[edit]
Collace has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Visitors should be aware that Collace is a high-crime planet (including many violent crimes involving firearms) and that offworlders are preferred targets.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 4 (important)
World Economy[edit]
Collace is the wealthiest and most important world in District 268. It has the largest population in the subsector, is a major industrial world renowned for producing low-cost, high-tech goods, and is also the site of a major SuSAG pharmaceutical factory. Moreover, settlers from Collace have colonized Inchin and Avastan, which occupy strategic positions on the J-1 main running between the Glisten and Five Sisters subsectors (though Collace's government has effectively disowned their governments). Collace is the prime candidate for permanent subsector capital (replacing the temporary one at Mertactor) if and when District 268 is integrated into the Imperium.
- Resources: C (very abundant)
- Labor: 8 (hundreds of millions)
- Infrastructure: G (very comprehensive)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
The industrial combine Colmetal, Inc., registered on Collace, maintains mines throughout the subsector.
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 6 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: D (very xenophilic)
- Strangeness: 2 (typical)
- Symbols: A (abstract)
Historical Data[edit]
Over the past two millennia, Collace has experienced steady growth and its population now stands at approximately a billion. Population pressure could well have become a problem, given the planet's large population and relative lack of dry land on which to build. However, this problem was solved by housing most of Collace’s inhabitants in arcologies, often built in clusters. A baneful consequence of "clustering" is that the middle- and upper-classes have tended to gravitate into newer, more expensive, high-security arcologies, leaving the older and less expensive structures to the working class and poor. Many of the lower-class arcologies have become increasingly run-down and experience high levels of criminal activity, much of it ‘run’ by organized criminal gangs.
Despite this, Collace is the wealthiest and most important world in District 268. It has the largest population in the subsector, is a major industrial world renowned for producing low-cost, high-tech goods, and is also the site of a major SuSAG pharmaceutical factory. Moreover, settlers from Collace have colonized Inchin and Avastan, which occupy strategic positions on the J-1 main running between the Glisten and Five Sisters subsectors (though Collace’s government has effectively disowned their governments). Collace is the prime candidate for permanent subsector capital (replacing the temporary one at Mertactor) if and when District 268 is integrated into the Imperium.
Collace has sought to join the Imperium and hosts the largest Imperial scout base in District 268. Indeed, the term "scout base" does not accurately convey the vast scale of the IISS presence, which includes facilities (training sites, supply depots, early warning stations, etc.) on half a dozen other planets and satellites in the system in addition to the main base on Kirkton -- Collace's principal moon. The intimate relationship between the Imperial and local military is demonstrated by the fact that elements of Collace's armed forces provide ground and close orbit defense for both themselves and the IISS facilities.
The only reason why Collace has not yet joined the Imperium is the opposition of nearby Trexalon (Spinward Marches 1339) - with which it is in a state of "cold war." Trexalon is dominated by the Trexalon Technical Consortium (TTC), a large interlocking corporate trust which controls the starport and has monopoly on industry in that system. The TTC is vociferously anti-Imperial because it perceives the Imperium as an impediment to its expansionist ambitions in District 268. Since the Imperial authorities are reluctant to risk inflaming the situation, Collace’s admission to the Imperium has been "put on the back burner."
One of the key points of contention between Collace and Trexalon is the Pavabid (Spinward Marches 1238) system, which lies directly between them just one parsec away. Ever since iridium deposits were discovered there, the TTC and Collace have been competing for influence with the ruling religious dictatorship to secure mineral exploitation rights. To date, however, the xenophobic offshoot of the Church of the Stellar Divinity on Pavabid has rejected both parties’ advances due to fears that introducing large numbers of off-world miners would irrevocably pollute its pure theocratic society.
