The Church of the Stellar Divinity is a religious organization with interstellar reach.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The basic belief of the Church of the Stellar Divinity is that all stars are gods, conscious beings of transcendental power. If a man worships his sun, lives a good life, and follows the teachings of the church, his soul will acquire spiritual mass, and upon his death will be drawn into his sun, where it will join with the deity.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Offshoot Sects[edit]

Church of Dysitin[edit]

This sect has ruled Dysitin Prime since the first days of settlement. It holds their aging giant star to be special, its dying breaths bringing life to a new world.

Church of the Stellar Truth[edit]

This denomination, viewed as a cult, had its origins in Vilani faiths with influence drawn from the Solomani Hypothesis. Its popularity has varied widely over the centuries. The Church of the Stellar Truth casts the Ancients as divine servants of the stars, sent forth by them to seed life throughout the universe, focusing heavily on spreading Humaniti to as many worlds as possible.

Pavabidian Heresy[edit]

The church on Pavabid subscribes to what is known as the Pavabidian Heresy, claiming that a star-god sometimes sends part of its consciousness to inhabit the body of a man, who is called the "Son of the Star" and who is therefore divine and infallible. The first Son of the Star was Pavabid, who conquered his world in a religious war and renamed it for himself. A further tenet of the Pavabidian church is that the stars are not brothers, but enemies; people from other stars are enemies of God, and contact with offworlders is therefore forbidden to all except a faithful few.

Worlds & Sectors (Astrography)[edit]

The church is popular in the Imperium, where it makes few demands on a worshiper's life and doesn't compete with the government.

It is primarily located in the following areas:
Charted Space:

  • Deneb Sector
    • Deneb itself is a major centre for the Church, hardly surprising since the system's primary is one of the most impressive stars in Charted Space. The local variant of the Church often considers Deneb's natives the "chosen people". This doesn't go over well with other worshippers, who consider the Denebian branch of the faith a bit holier-than-thou.
    • For centuries, monastic orders of Deneb's Church have lauded the medicinal properties of several species of mountain shrub roots on Northammon. Not until the last 200 years, however, have these claims been taken seriously by the public at large.
  • Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector
    • The high-population world of Luni is notably a stronghold of the Church.
  • Spinward Marches Sector

The church was once popular in Imperial parts of Empty Quarter Sector, with Riamlir chosen to be the centre of worship for the region. However, after an early flourishing, Star Worship withered under sustained Hindu and Islamic hostility, with the last major population centre of Star Worship in the Empty Quarter collapsing on Riamlir in 804.
