• Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
• This world would like to become a major industrial powerhouse in the subsector, but lacks the population and resources to build an adequate workforce and industrial business sector.
• It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Carcosa Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

• It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.

Carcosa is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Carcosa has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

• The atmosphere is tainted with radon gas.
• It experiences relatively low temperatures.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Carcosa has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

• The world's small seas are crusted with pack ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Carcosa has large polar ice caps, which represent the bulk of the planetary water. While the planet is geologically active, the surface is a mixture of high, isolated mountain ranges and craters.

Carcosa has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Carcosa negotiated with the Solomani Confederation for 2 separate downports, Cardown and Cosadown.

• They support traffic in the Northern and Southern icepack regions, respectively.

World Population (P)

Carcosa has a population of 600,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

• The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.

Cities are constructed at TL–7-TL–8 with designs adapted to water and power conservation.

• Euxene French, a Terran language principally spoken in the Euxene Cluster.

These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
