General Description[edit]

The Ancestor class is a capable combat vessel with 6-G and J-3 performance. Its primary armament is a huge missile bay, able to land a devastating blow against almost any opponent. It has an sleek airframe shape, allowing it to operate within an atmosphere and perform surface landings.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage / Hull The KE11c Ancestor class Frigate is constructed using a 1,100 dTon hull built in a sleek wedge configuration. The hull is streamlined and has good atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are improved by its onboard gravitic systems.
2. Crew x43 personnel.
  • x7 command, x5 engineering, x6 gunnery, x2 flight, x3 service, and x20 marines.
    • The command crew consists of the Captain, the Executive Officer, two electronics officers (commo and sensor ops), two pilot/navigators, and a medical officer.
    • Each crew section has a senior officer.

  • There are 26 Staterooms.
    • Staterooms are configured to what the Jaibok consider to be comfort.
    • All Staterooms are given over to the crew. 9 are single occupancy and are set aside for selected command personnel and the marine officer: the remaining 17 are double occupancy.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-6, giving performance of Jump-3 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 5 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for One Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering.

The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite.

5. Hardpoints x11 hardpoints.
  • The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out for an Ancestor class is:

x1 100-ton Bay mounting heavy Missile launchers.

x1 triple Beam Laser turret, forming a single battery of 1 turret.

7. Defenses The hull has no additional armor.
  • The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8. Craft Flight Section:

x1 10-dTon KU1a Fetch class Launch.

The subcraft is housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 13 dTons.

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 396 Tons.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr1,428.946
  • Architects Fee: MCr14.290
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr1,143.157

The price does not include the cost of the launch:

With its subcraft, a discounted Ancestor class costs MCr1.148.085

11. Construction Time 121 weeks as standard, 97 weeks in bulk.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 7 dTons.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Ancestor class Frigate is an ubiquitous type of warship used by the Korsumug Empire, typically serving as a major component in a raiding force. Early low-jump examples of the class served on the Korsumug Main, where their powerful missile battery gained them a reputation for punching far above their weight.

It was designed by the Jansa, a minor race closely allied with the Jaibok.

A number of redesigns with more powerful drives were fielded as the Korsumug Empire began to venture to worlds further from the Main. This ultimately resulted in the KE11c variant, equipped with a Jump-3 drive.

Examples of the Ancestor class can be encountered throughout Mavuzog Sector and Theta Borealis Sector.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Vessel Peculiarities:
The vessel is a powerful combat craft with a long range and capable of independent operations. The accommodations are notoriously cramped.

  • Ancestor class vessels often serve as core elements for Jaibok raiding groups.

Physiologically, neither Jaibok nor Jansa cope well with low berths and they are not routinely fitted to Korsumug vessels.

  • Earlier variants of the class were fitted with low berths in order to transport prisoners, a feature that has been removed as internal space issues have become more pressing.

Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KE refers to Korsumug Empire (a designation applied to all Korsumug combat units), 11 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'c' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Ancestor' is an easy to remember name to identify the specific type of vessel.

  • Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
