Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The S-17r class Frigate is a warship:

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The S-17r class Frigate is an unstreamlined planetoid hulled escort vessel. It is constructed as a long-range design. It is incapable of wilderness refueling. The vessel is a TL-13 design. The name of the class sprang from work requisition documents.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage The S-17r class Frigate class is constructed using a 6,300 dTon hull built in an unstreamlined asteroid hull configuration.
  • x2 primary airlocks and x4 secondary service airlocks are located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by several large hatches with loading ramps. It has vacuum cargo transfer locks with grapples.
  • The configuration of the hull typically stays in orbit and relies on service vessels.
2. Crew x140 personnel:
  • 11 command, 12 engineering, 17 gunnery, 3 flight, 13 services, and 50 marines.

Accommodations

  • There are 56 staterooms. Double occupancy accommodations are available for all.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

3. Performance The vessel mounts a Cobalt Dynamics Jump 4 drive, two Magnum Flow Reactionless 1G drives, and a Power Plant-9, giving performance of Jump-4 and 2G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 2. It is a long-range design: the internal fuel tankage is sufficient for a single jump 4, with drop tanks for an additional jump 4 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
    • Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is an efficient Model/7fib computer: with no backup computer is installed. There are multiple holo-dynamically reconfigurable Workstations.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Sensors include the following. • Active IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Active Sensor) • Laser / Light Sensors (Passive Sensor) • LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) – also called LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • Prismatic (anti-laser) aerosol (countermeasure) • Magnetic Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Neutrino Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Passive IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Passive Sensor) • RADAR (Radio Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • All-weather RADAR (improved function in a variety of environmental conditions) (Active Sensor) • RADAR Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • RADAR Jammer (Active ECM) • Radiation Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Radio Detector (Communications Equipment) (Passive Sensor) • Radio Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • Radio Jammer (Active ECM) • UV Detector (ultraviolet radiation) (Passive Sensor) Gravitic Equipment • Densitometer (gravitic sensor) (Passive Sensor) Navigational Aids • Inertial Locator (navigational aid, data improvement)

5. Hardpoints x63 hardpoints.
  • The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out is:
  • x6 100 ton factor 9 missile bays.
  • x1 triple Beam Laser turret, 1 factor 4 battery.
  • x1 dual fusion gun turret, 2 factor 4 batteries.
7. Defenses Factor 3 hull armor
8. Craft Flight Section
  • x4 3 dton Air Rafts

The S-17r class Frigate usually carries a platoon of small Grav APCs for the direct action team to deploy and ex-filtrate. The vehicle is housed in a dedicated hanger.

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 2,772 dTons.
  • The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.

Droptanks Examples of the class in military service are routinely fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-4 for extended range operations.

10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel, complete without the subcraft, is MCr3,295.215.
  • The vessel and its subcraft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and there is a MCr. 32.952 design fee is chargeable.
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr2,636.172 (not including subcraft).
11. Construction Time 152 weeks individually, 122 weeks in quantity.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 50 dTons.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Designed and built for Talokan Armed Forces these are unstreamlined, asteroid vessels designed to hit hard and fade away. They carry six heavy missile bays, with three turrets. They have lost the naval standard, redundant systems to absorb some critical hits. They have 2-G maneuver drives and have 2-Agility. They also carry a marine platoon, with limited vehicle support. They are less capable in marine support and recovery. Their 5 low berths help with survivability or extra troops.
