The TC10 Kalsop class Frigate is a warship.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The TC10 Kalsop class Frigate is a guided missile frigate class deployed by the Trooles Confederation. Examples of the class can be encountered throughout the coreward parts of Theta Borealis Sector. The vessel has a fully streamlined needle/wedge structure hull. It is fitted with fuel scoops and fuel purification plant allowing it to perform wilderness ocean refueling.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage The TC10 Kalsop class Frigate is constructed using a 1,000 Ton hull built in a fully streamlined needle/wedge structure configuration. The hull is capable of wilderness ocean refueling.
  • The vessel has two airlocks. The cargo hold is accessed by a large bay doors that also serves to anchor docking clamps for service vehicles.
2. Crew x54 personnel.
  • x1 pilot, x1 navigator, x1 medic, x12 engineers, x2 gunners, x1 flight crew and x36 marines in 27 double occupancy staterooms.

  • There are 27 Staterooms.
    • All Staterooms are given over to the crew. All crew quarters are double occupancy.
  • There are no Low Berths.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and an upgraded fusion Power Plant-7, giving performance of Jump-2 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for a Jump-2 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. It is fitted with drop tanks, should extended range operations be required.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
  • The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge are a pair of Model/5 fib computers.
  • There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel.
  • The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a basic sensor array, and has an avionics suite. They have system range laser, microwave and radio communication arrays.
5. Hardpoints x10 hardpoints.
  • The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6. Armament TC10 Kalsop class Frigate are fitted with weapon systems for naval service.
  • x1 100 ton factor 8 missile bay
7. Defenses none
8. Craft 4 x 4T TC004 Rambler class Grav APC, 1 x 20T Gig
9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 270 Tons. They are delivered with a new set of optional jump 2 drop tanks, which can be fitted as needed.
  • The hull is fitted with fuel scoops.
  • The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in 8 hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr1,131.889 (base)
MCr905.511 (qty)
  • Architects Fee: MCr11.319
11. Construction Time 120 weeks as standard, 96 weeks in bulk.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 5 Tons.
  • The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.
  • Sections of the hold may be isolated if desired and can be provided with specialized environmental conditions, typically refrigeration.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The TC10 Kalsop class Frigate class was purchased and deployed by the Trooles Confederation. A completely different orbital hull fabrication company was sub-contracted to deliver these hulls. More accustom to civilian hulls, this was their first major naval contract. They unfortunately, lacked an important military capability. Their forges were incapable for creating the super dense hull metals required. As a result no hull armor graces this largely defenseless beauty. A radical departure from the more traditional streamlined cones, common in the navy, these graceful winged vessels are visually striking. They look like old atmospheric dog fighters which have escaped their atmospheric domain to venture deep into space flight. Crews have taken to applying nose art, with fierce faces, and lurid teeth which accentuate the gaping maw of the massive missile bay. The drop tanks fit flush below the variable geometry wings, and the Gig has a streamlined dorsal cowling. Fast and agile these ships are not crewed in keeping with traditional naval doctrine. As a result the engineering department swelled, and the bureaucratic command department effectively disappeared. They boast an expanded marine capacity. They meet the milspec missile array, but could not provide any secondary defensive armaments, which leaves an exploitable vulnerability.
