Hulun is a moderate population fluidic hellworld with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts, who are struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Cybele Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
- This world was once known as "Elysee".
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Hulun is a binary star system.
- The primary is a yellow main sequence.
- The secondary is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Hulun is a standard-sized world with exposed magma on its surface.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Hulun is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
- It experiences frequent geological activity, including earth tremors and volcanism.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Hulun has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It has a nitrogen atmosphere heavily tainted with sulfuric compounds and heavy noble gases. Oxygen exists mostly as surface compounds.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Hulun has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
The entire subsurface of Hulun contains an unusual amount of Uranium and Thorium metal and compounds, which has resulted in active subsurface nuclear activity. The planetary core measurements indicates that it undergoes periods of nuclear criticality. The end result is constant vulcanism and dynamic areas of magma seas.
The current set of continents are all young, less than 1 million years old, with high, rugged mountain ranges.
- Settlements are found in the more stable areas and are built to mitigate the constant tectonic activity.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Hulun is the capital of the subsector and the seat of Confederation regional authority.
Tourism to see Hulun's spectacular natural scenery is a growing commercial sector on the world.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Hulun has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- This world is host to a Confederation Naval Base.
- This world is host to a major Military Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Hulun has a population of 100,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population almost entirely consists of Solomani humans.
Urbanization[edit]
Hulun cities are carefully engineered with a solid, mobile base and flexible upper areas to minimize tectonic impact on residents. Urban areas are found in sheltered, stable areas with hovercraft transport being used to commute to industrial work areas.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Rim Anglic, a dialect of Anglic and the principal language of the Confederation.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Hulun possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
World Government (G)[edit]
Hulun is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Law (L)[edit]
Hulun has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 3 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
TL–12 technology makes this world habitable. Harvesting radioactives is a lucrative industry and underpins the economy.
Imports include food, electronics, and industrial equipment, as well as clothing and protective gear. Exports largely consist of radioactives.
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
- Infrastructure: B (very extensive)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: A (discordant)
- Acceptance: B (extremely friendly)
- Strangeness: 9 (extremely confusing)
- Symbols: G (extremely abstract)
World Timeline[edit]
